So, I see the "senior" types of dog food diets. When is a dog considered a senior? Female Labrador retriever to be specific.
Thanks

i believe 8 years old is the number they're basing that off of, but i could be wrong. Probably a marketing scheme to make you think what you're currently feeding isn't good enough.
Add some cosequin or dasuquin to their food and you should be alright. Omega 3 fishoils are also good.

I never fed my dogs senior feed. I just fed good feed all their lives.

Senior dog food I think has less protein, less carbs, less fat. If your older dog is not getting overweight, and during checkups not showing anything unusual in tests related to diet, I would not change it.

I started feeding my 14 yo senior dog some senior feed. She ended up losing muscle mass in her hind quarters. She’s 15 now, and back on the same feed as the other dogs. Just adjust quantity if weight is an issue.

Never changed. Cut portions.
