Heck that BS had been going on for more than 20years. I remember walking into a GM dealer to buy a Chevy Suburban 4X4. The window sticker was marked up a couple grand over the MSRP. I asked the salesman what was the bottom line on the truck, his response that it’s listed on the window sticker. I laughed at him and began to leave.
He asked if “ aren’t you interested in buying it?” I responded, I don't intend to pay the MSRP yet alone your inflated price.
I went to another dealership and bought the Suburban equipped with everything I wanted for more than $3,000 under MSRP.

They are all playing the game to some degree since they are all in the same boat...NO inventory available except scraps.

What you may have "negotiated" 6-12 months ago is NOT applicable to today's market. My company bought me a 2021 Tundra in August and the dealership has called back a plethora of times wanting to buy it back for more than it cost new.

When you’re self employed, there’s significant tax advantages to buying a new vehicle.

Good for you....life is sweeter when you don't have vehicle and house payments. I was "just looking" at a new Yukon a few years ago and the salesman walked up and said "that would sure look good in your drive way". I said "Yes, but that 60K in my bank account looks better". He did not hang around to chat.

I was kinda thinking the same thing.

But, to each his/her own and if someone likes staring at the $$$ figures on your bank statement rather than driving a newer vehicle, sobeit.
I'm sure their children will enjoy spending all that Jack when they are gone because the last time I checked all the money in the world isn't buying you anything when your time is up here.

I'm sure everybody that's upset about the $10-15k markup was equally upset when they got $13k off a new F150 a few years ago, right?

Seems like you should buy a new car every day and then sell it. Make a killing.

I don't see it as one upper. Just difference in how people choose to spend money. But what should blow his mind is his unnecessary concern over how others spend their money.

Yes. I don’t care for that sort of thing. But it really is supply and demand. The scalpers put the effort in to buy ammo.

I think that’s over now?

Have not bought ammo in awhile.

Limited to 1 per year. I actually didn't buy one last year since my 2019 didn't make it in until mid October of that year. It's got 24K miles on it now, so I'm looking again. Who knows, fleet sales may not even be able to get new vehicles with all the craziness going on.

Not trying to one up anyone, just showing what can be done and if I convince one person that buying a new vehicle right now is a dumb financial move so be it. I don't care how anyone spends their money but if you're on a forum griping about a markup on a depreciating asset then what does that tell you? Probably not a good time to buy...
Not having a constant vehicle payment is amazing. I can't wait until I pay off the mortgage. People say that feeling is great too.
"Too big to fail" is what got us where we're at. We the people should take back the country and let the big banks and automobile manufacturers fail. There is no reason they cost what they do. Bailouts for everyone and this is what you get.

It’s a story of wasting my time with the surprise at the end. We were already aware of the “ hard times “ in the car world and nobody wants to buy a car in modern times.

Not surprised. Care dealers are just a rung or two up the food chain from lawyers and politicians.

Not sure about other dealers, but had a good contact who was a GM at a fairly large GMC dealer...he told me they would sometimes make only $400 on a new vehicle sale, $2000 was considered good. He said 60% of their profit came from the service department.

So get this, some friends decided the trophy wife was gonna get a used, low mileage Mercedes GLE from TXTrophy's "favorite" dealership in Boerne. They were looking at 2020 and a 2021 with both being options in the low seventies. During the decision making process, they inquired as to the cost of a new one. The salesman replied they didn't have any new ones as the only one left had been sold the previous day. Luckily, another salesman overheard him and let them know that deal had fallen though. They ended up buying that brand new one for $68K. All were outfitted similarly.

Huh?
