Both of those are factors in reducing wind drift. Heavier is less susceptible to being pushed and faster means the wind has less time to act upon the flight path.

I’ve been pleased shooting a Hornady .308, 165 gr. SST, 2750 mv in some pretty windy conditions. It did seem to handle the wind better than lighter, faster bullets under identical conditions at 450 yards.

An unethical shot is one you take, that you know you shouldn't.

Depleted uranium bullet in small diameter and driven at high velocity.

Find something else to do on that day. You can't whip high winds and it doesn't matter what your name is.

Untrue.

I’d rather shoot in a consistent high wind than one that switches and blows hard and stops.. or spins around and comes straight at you..

Lots of practice and $$$ shooting in the conditions.. use wind flags and keep notes lots of notes..
Something big like a 6.5 prc, a 284, or a heavy 30 cal with the proper twist to shoot the longest heaviest bullet for their caliber.. make sure you buy 16-24 pounds of the same lot powder and 2,000 bullets all the same lot.

Once you shoot all that stuff you’ll either be broke or a high master.

BC and velocity are the only two things that beat wind...you still have to read wind.

Yup, the reticle and practice can manage it.

Add in bullet weight. Those are the top three factors.

Shooting farther than 500 yards my order of importance are:
1. B.C.
2. MV
3. Bullet weight

My standard 7mm-08 is a great example. 162 gr only coming out at 2640 fps MV. But I've handed it off to lots of people and they have zero trouble getting consistent hits, in any wind.

Depends on wind direction and distance.

A fairly steady wind can be 'doped' with practice and a good spotter.

My Daughter was shooting a bit over 1 mile on this day (16" x 16" steel target) and walked one in on her 7th shot.

Good luck with that. As I've posted many times before, I've gotten to watch the world's best and acclaimed sniper trainer in Canadian, TX work with his "students" from all over the world. In that same area is the world's most accomplished long range shooter, last name Tubb. They can't dope the wind every time in windy conditions, and neither can the people they train. If they can't do it, don't try and tell me the average guy can. It ain't happening on any sort of consistent basis. Seen it way too many times.

At Hodnett's place (not his place but where he trains) it is what I'd call a "wagon wheel" setup. The benches are the hub of the wheel, and you can shoot out past a mile in any direction from that hub at steel. They shoot in every conceivable, imaginable wind condition, as the wind blow about 90% of the time up there, which is why they train there.

The farther the distance, the lower the percentage of a hit. NRA defines long range as over 600 yards. I know I'm nearly 100% consistent at 600 yards, and I bet those guys are too.

There are plenty of scenarios that a miss on the first shot is fine, just make sure a corrected shot is following up quickly, before the wind changes again. That's where good form comes into play. Spot for yourself.

Have to work around the wind. Had many a hunt up here where we only took shots into the wind or with it, just too much for doping a cross wind.
Made lots of stalks where we had to circle around to get wind than wasn't crosswind also.
Need to know how it works in draws and across ridges too , we get wind funnels that make shooting really iffy on windy days.

Wasn't hard to figure out the animals up here also don't like high winds, they bed on lee sides and that helps with spotting and planning stalks.

What do you consider high winds ? We get some that will literally blow you over.

When I have to take shot in fairly windy conditions I work for the shot that does not have wind drift taking my bullet into the guts.

And as an aside......there are wind flags all the way out to every target from the "hub" location. Amazing how they can be doing such different things at distance, and in between actually. A real learning experience.
