Carried the 357 Marlin deer hunting again yesterday, shot a doe at 90 yards she went about 50 to 60 yards which is not uncommon for a heart shot animal with about anything we hunt with. Shot was just in front of leg bone on entrance and exit just behind leg. Entrance and exit holes were between 3/4 and one inch. Field dressed and the heart was a mangled mess that looked more like bloody cubed meat than a heart.

Marlin in 35 Remington, BLR in 358 Winchester. I’ve become partial to 358W.

Like several others, I’ve had a pre 64 Win 30 30 for a LONG time. probably 40 years. I can’t think of any reason to get another one. The safe is full anyway.

My wife is really pissed at you guys wife! As a recovering lever action addict, started reading this thread and this showed up today. Hope y’all are happy!

No tang safety
No cross bolt safety

Great looking 73 in one of my favorite short range hunting calibers.

I’ve got a 336W 30-30 I’m happy with. It does have a Wild West Happy Trigger and a Pachmayr grind to fit recoil pad added to it. If I get another lever gun I’m pretty sure it would be a BLR 7mm-08 with a trigger job.

Don’t roll those bloodshot eyes at me.

I just bought 6 boxes of Core-lokt 300 Savage from Optics Planet. $45/20 and free shipping! I couldn't find brass, so I had to go the loaded cartridge route, just so I can reload them.

But did they deliver it? Optics planet has a bad habit of selling things they don’t have.

I've got a BLR 270 wsm, for me it's not the same as an old school lever action rifle.
Spouse has a couple of Rossi/Puma 454s. They are an interesting longer range caliber for sure.

I have a Model 308MX in Marlin 308 Marlin Express. Great shooting gun and very accurate out to 300yds or better. Mild recoil like the 308 Win. Also have a 1962 1894 in 44 mag. No safety. To go along with my 1981 1894 in 357, also no safety.

Nice!
I've got two Win 1873s w/o safeties too. But my Marlin 1894 (44 Mag) has the cross bolt safety. No big deal, I don't use it.
I am looking to get a 444 Marlin. Most affordable (Affordable??? At $1100-$1300!) have the cross bolt safety. Pre-safety models go upwards of $2k! eek2[Linked Image]

Dad had a 73 in .44-40, octagon barrel, that he bought off one of our best employees. Supposedly used, either with, or against, I can't remember which, Pancho Villa. grin Yep, the brother got that one too. (Who knows where it is.) The brother and I both told Dad he needed to get the firing pin fixed, but he said that there was nothing wrong with it. One morning I drop him off at a blind with it, then I crawl up onto a board in a tree and hear a muffled "whUMP!" I drive back over there and he's shot a hole in the floor of the blind jacking a round in the chamber. He got the firing pin looked at right after that. up

Hard-headed old cuss. 'Glad I didn't inherit that! bolt

I didn't mean that I don't use the rifle (44 Mag.) I just don't use the safety is all. I love that gun! I have won a few woods walk competitions with it. It was worked over by a "cowboy"/SASS gunsmith before I bought it. It is smoooth and it is a tack driver. Not so much to look at, looks well used, but boy does it shoot.

I just traded a 1895 Guide Gun in 444 to a member for the 357. He was happy and so am I.
