Yep, if a guy is in dire need of a 4lb rifle scope that's the ticket.

I can honestly say that I have never considered weight as even a small factor in buying a scope. I'm sure some folks do, but that's obviously not who these are targeted at.

The Razor Gen 2 were some of the best optics in the price range with good reticles and very user-friendly features. I haven't seen reviews on the Gen 3, but if they're the same jump as Gen 2 was from Gen 1, that will be a phenomenal value at $3k.

What is the lightest weight competitor that has 35x+ magnification, tons of travel, good FOV, and excellent optics? And how much does that competitor cost? Honest questions - I don't pay much attention to the lightweight market. Vortex's lightweight lineup is the AMG, which is obscenely good optics and design for the weight and money. The question with vortex always seems to be reliability.

re: patriot - NF ATACR - 7-35x56mm runs in at about 6oz less, at 39.3 ozs. I don't know if you can get one for $3k out the door, but I would be willing to bet a call to Doug at Cameraland might get you much closer than other places will.

2cents - I love the ATACR and the NF NX8 4-32-50 (28.6 oz) is another option I'd highly consider in that class, and those run much less.

Yup.

And you can get a demo, or used out the door for $3k.

6 ounces

I love the ATACR too, but that doesn't address the "4 lb rifle" comment. It's less than a half pound difference.

Here is one that relatively light at 38oz and it’s solid in the glass department. Haven’t used it enough to know how well it will hold up but like it so far.

Checked out the first one. It has no exposed turrets and 15 mil of adjustment range. It's like comparing a moped to a z06. Yeah, the moped weighs less but they're not built for the same thing.

Mark 5 HD looks comparable, but it's not even a pound less so again, why the big deal about weight on a scope that's primarily built for precision shooting and not hunting?

I agree, if for precision shooting, weight has never factored into my decision as i'm not toting the rifle around, it's typically stationary.
The VX line of Leupold has always been hunting-oriented, hence the less travel. The Mark series is their "tactical/precision" line.

For the price, I still like my Burris RT-25, 5-25x56. I got it new, for $459.99 (over $600 now) and for the price, it'd be tough to beat. I like it so much, I'm considering the RT-15, 3-15x50 as well. Same features just less magnification. I love the reticle and the glass is superb.

I wanted to get the RT-6 for my AR but budget wouldn't support it at the time.

Burris doesn't build junk. So when you work up their lineup, it's just more features and better optics. I wish all optics companies worked like that. I'll eventually swap out my AR optic for an RT-6. I didn't even know about the RT-25...that or the RT-15 would be fantastic on a couple of my guns I'm looking for scopes for.

Plus my math shows it’s only a 3lb scope.

Given where the market is headed (35-40X top end) and their need to support the PRS guys they sponsor, this is an obvious offering from them.

March @ 23oz.

Weight is very first thing I look at, second repeatability, third glass

With that said Vortex LHT line targets guys like me.

The water in my pack is far heavier than the rifle scope.

Think about what you just wrote. Scope over water.??? Or scope over tent/sleeping bag/food... Essentially over safety. I did over 50 miles in five days for my CO buck this year. In that case 10 oz makes a huge difference. I'd rather carry 10oz more water, and drink the weight off my back, every day. 10oz every footstep over 50 miles is also a lot of weight.

I personally have zero need for a 32 oz scope. Plenty of good, lighter scopes that will get me 16+ moa of elevation. Same reasons I don't need to add an 9+ pound complete rifle to.my collection. No point, a lot of other stuff I can add or just save my feet and back in general

I get your side of it. You are right saving 10oz means nothing if it doesn't work. I just feel like days of that type of compromise are gone.

He’s a fireman. With all the gear he is used carrying, I’m sure a heavier rifle doesn’t bother him.

Right Scott.

I long for a scope that is light AND DOES WHAT I NEED IT TO DO!

But it doesn't exist yet. I won't compromise my rifle scopes reliability for some ounces.

And before you bring up the Vortex, save it. No way I'm using one, no way! Seen too many of them break down.

And yes, I've been on the mountain. I couldn't breaf! Especially when I had to pack out the bull elk I killed. grin

Lol, March FFP’s weight is same as the LHT. I get your sediment about Vortex. They just replaced my small Razor spotter.

Anything in excess of a 40 mm objective is just more surface area to screw up your hunting. You guys must prance around much more gingerly than the manner in which I navigate through terrain. I am not a bench rest guy.

If you're distracted, that's a brain problem, not a scope problem.

The rifle and scope I carried for the last four days is the same one that is with me every day. Needless to say, I know it well. On a knee, low magnification, a doe was taken at 30 yards, that I quietly snuck up on right before the sun was up. Less than five minutes later another one was taken at 355 yards. Prone, bipod, across a wheat field I was headed to anyway. I snuck slow and quiet through the brush, and I coveted several miles at a fast pace in these hunting days. Same scoped rifle has rested on trees, truck, Mule, barb wire fences, and shot danned difficult rifle matches.

Mil/Mil FFP, 50mm objective, 3.5-21 X. And it's heavy. But I would not suggest betting against the rig, for anything down range of it that I want to hit.
