Carla and I have enough pre-existing conditions that if I listed them all, it would would look like Cliff Notes for Tolstoy's War and Peace. Even though I was taking precautions, I had what was diagnosed as a "light " case of COVID-19 last year. Now if that was a light case, God forbid what a "real" case is like. Let me tell you...the "Beast" comes out at night. The only good thing is that my wife and daughter escaped it. We are all three now fully vaccinated and have our boosters. I got my Shingles shot and Moderna booster at the same time.. No side effects other than the arm stayed sore longer than before but that may have been the Shingles shot? I feel that, given my health conditions, the downside of not being immunized is far greater than any risk of the vaccine plus I can not risk passing it on to immune comprised members of my family.
Now the "kicker"... my single parent son was one of the lucky young people who had heart attack symptoms after taking his first dose. We were in Ft. Worth when the phone call from my daughter came. " John is in an ambulance on his way to Amarillo. He is having a heart attack!" He dodged the bullet. Never know how much damage but did he continue his vaccinations? Have my grandchildren been vaccinated? How many of his friends passed on the jab because of his experience? Questions I do not ask and judgments that I do not make. Easy to judge until it becomes personal.
