Forgive me if this has been posted. 'Thought it was an excellent film. Dam, if it didn't make me consider another one, and that takes some doing. bang

When I was a kid (preteen, I think) the town Marshall had beagles for rabbit hunting, and he invited me along on a few hunts. Man, I absolutely loved it. Some wonderful memories, for sure.

This was in the NE Louisiana lowlands, and the rabbits were those big Swamp Rabbits.

I’ve hunted, shot, and eaten rabbit for almost 50 years and never with dogs. I’d like to give it a whirl some day…

+1... I sure do miss my Beagle... He spotted a moose in CO and he acted like he was going to tear it to shreds.

Mine would've tried. If that moose would've turned a run, they would've died running him.

Hunting almost anything with dogs seem pretty cool to me.

When I was really young my grandfather had a few beagles we used to hunt rabbits. So much fun and some of my favorite memories.

Not all beagles, unfortunately, are effective rabbit dogs. Our family lived on the edge of a large wooded area that was rabbit infested, and we had a beagle that chased rabbits constantly. Seemed like a good idea to take him rabbit hunting, or just join him, as he was chasing them already. He ran a fat one by me, and I blasted it. Didn’t see the beagle again for a couple of days. Apparently, he wasn’t a fan of shotguns.

Used to rabbit hunt with a group of guys back in Arkansas, and we all ran beagles. If everyone brought all their dogs, we would have about 25. Turn them out in the Arkansas River bottoms, and all hell would break loose. We might have 5-6 races going on at once. Pure, glorious chaos. Swamps and cottontails both. Those were some good times.

My beagle, Walter, and I used to rabbit hunt quite a bit when I was a kid. The problem was whenever Walter decided he was done he would just go home. One minute we were having a great time and the next he was commuting back to the house. He ended up biting a fat chick riding a bike so we had to give him away.
