I have been invited on a deer hunt in Zapata county.
I wasn’t going to go but my grandson is jumping up and down wanting to go, he was invited too.
How is the illegal traffic down there, I don’t want to put my grandson in any danger.
The guy taking us says he hasn’t had much trouble other than the care taker housing illegals one time but he is now gone.
Plus I have never hunted south Texas and would like to go once in my life.
I have been invited on a couple of Mexico hunts but didn’t go because the guy that invited me wanted me to go to boys town with him, but I’m a married man “ that was in my younger years “.

I would go. I hunted twice this year about 20 miles north of Del Rio for a week. Never had a problem.

Hunted Zapata/Webb county line for 35+ years, never any issues with illegals; they tend to follow the pipelines and move on their way. Could be slightly different if the property is closer to Rio Grande, but not sure...

I had a lease in Zapata county several years ago. I’d go in a heartbeat, lots of quail. Also the most rattlesnakes I’ve come across were on that lease. Be careful and keep your eyes peeled.

We will be leaving this afternoon.
If we have a successful hunt I will post pictures.
Thanks for the replies.

We saw plenty deer, but not many bucks, and the bucks we did see were young.
They would come out on the corn and push the does a little then go back to eating.
My grandson did get a shot at a javelina, but missed, plus he got to throw a lure in Lake Falcon.
The weather was cool with a little drizzle, he didn’t get a bite.
It was a good experience and we have already been invited back next year to hunt during the rut.
