Our yard guy just went up from $25 to $30 last summer. Granted, we’re not quite on postage stamp lots, but not far from it. However it’s just like pool cleaning like someone mentioned earlier. It’s not so much the yards, it’s the routes that pay well and take a long time to develop. I have a buddy in Austin who would build up pool cleaning routes and sell them to local companies so they didn’t have to invest the time to build up that route/clientele. 1 yard at $25 won’t do jack for your books, but when you have a whole street and good equipment and can knock out 20-40 yards/day, it can be decent money. Our yard guy is a former Cysco engineer from Mexico

Another buddy of mine in south Houston/Pearland area does landscaping/lawn care and actually makes great money. He focuses on the areas with acreage lots, but picks up a lot of work for being a veteran (and some tell him because he’s a white dude LOL). I’ve helped him over some summers and have had folks run up to him and fire their yard crews on the spot to hire him since he’s a veteran. I loved riding on his equipment when we’d do a 5-20 acre spot. Doing small yards is too tedious, but put me on a riding mower or a tractor for a few hours and I’m in a happy place, doesn’t even seem like work to me

Car guy. Serial entrepreneur. Terrible golfer.

Speaking of mowing, my brother got a cab tractor and batwing mower and started mowing acreage. His primary business is from real estate agents paying to mow land they have for sell. Paid off his equipment sometime in the second year and has been in the 70-90k range every year since. I don’t know what percentage of that is profit. That’s while also holding down a full time job.

The bad news is you don’t pick your hours or the when it rains. You have to meet your obligations or you don’t have any business.

That’s gonna be with a lot of side hustles or even additional business ventures anyway, even if the rain is a euphemism
