I’m in the process of designing a fixed pond pier. Obviously it will be non floating. Research is all over the board. Any recommendations? At this point, I’ve narrowed it down to concrete piers 24” diameter about 3” deep with power poles anchored on top. Anybody have any other design ideas?

When my grandfather built his boathouse on Toledo Bend, he used wooden telephone poles driven into the bottom.

How big are you making it? Are you going to build a boat house or boat lift on it?? If so, I think you probably need to go deeper, like 4-6 feet, and 10-12" diameter posts. Is this a lined pond, where you have to worry about going thru the liner?? . I see them built here on our small fresh water ponds, and they use smaller round posts about 6-8" in diameter.

It will not have a boat slip. Probably 15’ out from pond bank with a T head on the end. No lined, clay bottom.

Similar to what you are describing. Sunk the 10" poles 6' in clay filled with Quikrete, used a 12" auger. It's about 25' from the bank.

2x12's for the frame. 2x6's for the floor. 2x4's for the cross braces and roof. 2x8's for the rails and top rail. 4x4's to hold the roof. 2x 4/6's for the benches.

I did the same when I built my boat house on Sandlin. Bought treated poles with 5 inch tops, had a BIG t-post driver built (72 lbs) and went to driving. Drove them a minumum of 3 feet into the lake bottom or till they stopped moving down with 7 ft spacing. Has worked great for over 21 years.

Papaw had one of those big crane-mounted drivers brought in and made quick work of the 16 poles he used (IIRC). It was a 2-boat house with a "pier" in between each slip with lifts in each too.

I was able to score som 6x6 galvanized square tubing. What is the minimum depth I should set them?
