I may have missed it before but what are the best systems ? How far could one possibly reach? Trying to go for a house to a barn

If your barn is on the same power/transformer as the house, one like this works well - NETGEAR PowerLINE 1000 Mbps WiFi, 802.11ac, 1 Gigabit Port - Essentials Edition (PLW1010-100NAS) https://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-Powe...x=plw1010%2Celectronics%2C158&sr=1-2
(it uses the powerlines to bridge almost any distance, and includes remote-wifi to light-up the barn)

What's the distance?

I agree the Powerline is easy and works, assuming your house and barn are on the same circuit.

I’ve got the same problem. Different electric meter on mine. WiFi signal outside the shop is strong but it will not penetrate the metal and insulation.

Orbi and some other mesh wifi systems can get the signal a fair distance but as said above, distance and the metal are major factors in getting a good connection.

Mount this on the barn pointing at your house:

Try this

I used to make point to point for clients that was hillbilly.

This is the finished product.

I tried everything power line, cheap repeaters etc. I broke down and bought the Orbi mesh system and I get full coverage in my shop now. I have one on my desk next to my router, another in my garage and another in my shop that it daisy chains off the one in the garage. Very easy to setup.

Different meter doesn't matter for PowerLine units, as long as both house & barn are on same pole transformer & units are plugged into same side (120v phase).

Power line worked for me but they were on different breaker boxes. If I had too much draw in the shop which was just a slight bit, the internet connection dropped.

I’ll have to look into it in the daylight. Shop faces a different street than the house and it’s power comes from that street.

I am on the same meter for sure. Just if you start going to sub panels the quality degrades. If you are on the same panel, it works much better.

If you want this to work and work well then Ubiquiti equipment is what you need. Fast speeds and very reliable. I am wirelessly beaming my house’s internet connection to two separate locations. They have all different kinds of gear and stuff that can transmit miles if you have line of sight. The downside is it isn’t really meant as consumer grade gear it is meant for professionals and thus it is somewhat complicated to use. It definitely isn’t plug and play.

I am pretty computer savvy but it isn’t at all what I do for a living. I set up the ubiquiti stuff to transmit my connection to my shop and was so impressed with how well it works that I have switched my entire home over to all ubiquiti network gear. I have rack mount switches, router, and five hardwired wireless access points at my house. You can learn to set it up on YouTube but I warn you it isn’t straightforward. I have had internet in my shop that as fast as in the house without any issues or downtime in years. It just works.

How far from the house are you? My metal shop and spray foam is about 100 feet from house and my computer uses the house WiFi just fine. I was pleasantly surprised to find this
