Agree, disagree. Whatever you will. But it would suck to have a family and live next to that smell. I drive a lot of back roads in southern Oklahoma hunting a lot of public land. Those little grow houses keep popping up everywhere. It’s changing the landscape.

My sister lives in Love County , there was a big bust a few miles down the road . Some folks started up a big operation , did not do any paperwork.

I wonder if you have to take a drug test to get a job at the pot farms...

We see it on the news out of Denison pretty regular. Several have been operated by ghost Chinese corporations.

New season of Trafficked on Natgeo did an episode on the grows in Cali. The majority of the shops and grows are illegal. The licensing fees and taxes are so expensive most people just take the gamble as the fines if you get busted are minimal. The largest loss is when they take your inventory. Pretty interesting episode.

that's what sets OK apart. they were smart enough not to go overboard with fee's and taxes.

Yep - the only entirely red state in the country will start becoming blue soon. Thankful for The Panhandle!

I don't see any trend that way.

I know a LOT of Conservatives that vote straight red in every election that smoke pot, not just a blue thing.

I'm not sure any of the legal operators will ever be able to compete with the products from Mexico. We will tax it to death while the cartels continue to produce a cheaper product.

It's pretty depressing going back home. The town I grew up in, outside OKC, now has a dispensary on every corner. We counted 17 pot dispensaries in the 2 miles between the highway and my parent's house. The neighborhood never looked poorer. Most of the buildings are old run down shops that have had a coat of paint slapped on them with freehand signs scrawled in purple, neon green, and black letters. Folks are seen loitering around the places at all hours of the day and night. If anyone is getting rich off this...it doesn't show.

I understand the free market, and this will likely change as the newness wears off and competition drowns out some of the businesses, but it is really out of hand. Oklahoma is, indeed, a red state, but not conservative, at least in the cities/towns of any significant size. They are far more libertarian than conservative. The mindset there is, "Just leave me alone and let me do what I want...except when it comes to church or killing babies." As with any state, it does get more conservative the more rural you get.

I don't have a problem with marijuana, or even the legalization of it. I just wouldn't want to live anywhere that seemed to be ALL about marijuana and casinos. That's what Oklahoma feels like.

Right, a quick observation of the parking lot of a CO pot shop tells you it's not about skinny jean wearing libs. Most of the customers have Texas plates and quite a few pickups. Didn't see a Subaru anywhere around.

that's called personal freedom. what a wonderful thing. and yes, it's very conservative. I have no desire for it to go back to the oppressive baptist run place I grew up in.

I agree. Personal freedom is a conservative concept, and a good one. People also have the freedom to make bad choices. I think this will prove to be a bad decision for Oklahoma. I don't know where you grew up, but I don't remember anything "oppressive baptist" in any of the place I grew up in.

Tulsa. no tatoos, no 6% beer, no liquor by the drink, no cold beer in a liquor store.

Crescent, Guthrie, Bethany for me. Yeah, the no tatoos and beer laws were silly...but I don't know about "oppressive" unless you spent you whole life yearning for a tatoo and a cold 6pt beer. Guess I had other priorities. The only oppression I faced came from the fact that nothing got past the town diner.
