I am possibly looking to get a muzzleloader to extend the deer season by two weeks. I have no idea where to even start. Any advice is appreciated on the subject.

Modern inlines are much easier than traditional.

I would recommend looking for powder and primers first. If you can find Triple seven or white hot pellets it is easier for someone new to muzzle loading. Finding any 209 primers will be the challenge. Some suggestions follow. You will need to go to the range and become familiar with the whole process. Do your homework first and if you can find someone who already hunts with a muzzleloader get with them and have them teach you.

CVA has some good videos on their website.

You also need cleaning rod, patches, cleaning solution, bullet starter, and breach plug lube. Something like the following if you can find it.

CVA Optima scope package is a good place to start. I started out with this package and took several deer before I upgraded to an Accura.

Hornady 250 gr SST sabots

I bought a Thompson Center Impact a few years ago with the same idea. I haven't taken anything with it yet but plan to take a doe this year in our extended season we have in January. Muzzleloaders are fun to shoot and a nice change of pace from a bolt action rifle. I've kept mine real basic with just the open sights it came with.

It’s my favorite time to hunt besides early season. Deer have settled back down and I can see in the east Texas woods since leaves are off. Deer are in feed mode

I have found everything I need to get going other than 209 primers. Does anyone have a good source?

I am just getting into Muzzleloading so I have 0. Looking for somewhere to buy some.

Surprisingly, I found everything else I needed to get started today.

^^^^^

Absolutely right. My favorite time to get out in the woods and see who the 'survivors' are. Bucks are often back in small bachelor groups, hungry, not real spooky.

See some of my best bucks that time of year and also the last week or so of October. I may or may not elect to shoot anything...but its an important time for me to see what made it through the season and note what to watch for next season. I will take a lot of photos with my camera those two weeks.

And since I also hunt East Texas....it is much easier to see farther back into the woods after the leaves have dropped some.

I dialed in my Optima as best I could this weekend as well. Used 2x white hots also and found them really dirty. ( first muzzy experience so this may be the norm) I had to clean the barrel after every shot or could not get the next bullet in the barrel all the way. Was all over the place until I figured that out. Did you find that as well?

You will want to clean it every time while dialing it in. a few dry patches will work fine.
