From Bear Creek Arsenal. Mostly to use in cartridge restricted areas but also to play with. Have read several posts here and it seems to be a good choice not to mention ammo seems available regularly. I will be reloading for it soon but plan on using a factory load until March or so. Thinking either the Winchester 180 or Hornady's 170, any preferences? I won't be hunting deer anymore this year with a cartridge gun so it will be hogs only.

I , along with a few friends , have been shooting hogs with it for over 8 years now . It is a very effective hog round at 150 yards and under .

I have taken several hogs with both the Hornady 170gr and Winchester 180gr. I’m not sure there is much difference but I continue to use the 180gr. It has become by go to round lately. I am also able to find it in the store and on line. I also use a Bear Creek upper. Let us know how you like yours.

I developed it and built AR-15's and bolt rifles for it about 8 years ago .

I also developed it's replacement about 3 years ago , the .357 Diablo . Same AR-15 set up but about 20 % more powerful . I am making another one this week .

Went to Academy an bought three boxes of Winchester 180's and 2 boxes of the Hornady 170 grain bullets. Upper hasn't been shipped yet so I am patiently waiting. I may replace my 6.5 Grendel with this upper as I can use it in straight walled cartridge areas if it shoots well enough.

I would like to follow your testing and can a Legend be rechambered to the .357 Diablo?

Yes a legend can be rechambered to 357 Diablo , but you need to switch to a 6.8 bolthead . We have been shooting pigs with the Diablo for a few years now . It is about 200 fps faster , so there is not too much difference in terminal performance . The cases are a make your own deal . Since the 350 L ammo is cheap and out there , the 350 L is a better bet for most people . I just like being different , BUT several of my rounds were picked up by makers .

Talk about a Mic drop!!!! " I developed it and built AR-15's and bolt rifles for it about 8 years ago . " Put that in your pipe and smoke it! Coolest post I've read on a thread in a while!
Guess we can learn some cool stuff from diablodog on chambers and ballistics.

Not really a mic drop. He just answered a question. If he would have said I have been shooting one for 8 years, long before Hornady brought it to market I would have known what he meant. That's like the 300 PRC, It's been around for a very long time before Hornady brought it to market and named it 300 PRC.....

I am Interested in the .357 Diablo though!

I have the barrel threaded and the extension fitted , the gas system made and ready to go . I am going to ream the barrel today and finish it up . I will try and post some photos later of the .357 Diablo round . A quick story on the development of these cartridges . I hunt pigs and wanted more instant knockdown power . The first " Bandit " cartridge was the 45 Bandit . A .452 dia 300 grain bullet at 2150 fps out of a 16 inch barrel bolt action carbine . S&W added a little rim and picked it up as the 460 . Made it easier for me as now I do not have to make my cases , I just turn the rim off theirs . The expansion of a pistol bullet at high velocity , did not exit and transferred all the energy . Named after my pig hunting Westie dog . That started the Bandit line , straight walled , headspaced on the mouth , pistol bullet , about 2150 fps . It got popular with my pig hunting fiends . Next was the 44 Bandit , because we got some free barrels . Then the 500 Bandit to see just how far I could take the concept . The .357 Bandit was made as I had some cheap barrels and a reamer blank that would make one . Also friends were having pig dropping problems with sub sonic 300 BO . A 180 grain .357 xtp bullet worked much better at sub sonic . Also it had much more killing power at 2150 fps than I thought it would , it became my most popular Bandit round in bolt rifles and AR-15's . Bandit is gone now , but his son Diablo took up where he left of . So diablo gets a bottle necked .357 cartridge . Diablo's only other bottle neck cartridge is the 900 grain 70 cal .

Ive considering adding in several times to the AR line

Simply because in this mess you could always find good ammo and it seems acceptable for the pig hunting I do

99% are under 100 yards....

The only real reason I needed on is to hunt some public land that is cartridge restricted. They are still "processing" my order.

Now that I finished up my latest .357 Diablo AR-15 , I have a new project . The 400 Bandit . A friend asked why I had not done a 40 . I said it would only be about 6 % better than the .357 , and making cases is work . So I made up a cartridge and it will work in an AR-15 . I found some barrel blanks and will grind up a reamer . You never know when you will need that extra 6 % !

Well it came yesterday. I don't know what was in the barrel but it took some real cleaning to remove. Going out to buy some ammo now. Otherwise overall the upper looks pretty good.

I thought you were supposed to buy the ammo first. That's what I did. Now I can't afford the upper.

Got it and shot it, with a little work things are working out well. Sighted in for 180 grain Winchester Power Points.

How it is working with the 180 gr power points?

My sons bear creek .350 didn't like them and shot the 150 grs much better.

Well my upper seems to like the 180 Winchester load but I had some issues getting it to feed just about anything for a while. In my case it turned out the magazine feed lips were run too far forward. Ground them back .2 or so and all is good. Now it feeds everything tried so far and shoots very good, plenty good for the ranges the round is designed for. I have run some 300 cast loads through it, bullets from 155 gr. to 210 grains and am really liking the round.
