I have set up a motion detector light at one of my feeders. It is a white light and have been told that the light would scare the hogs off when it came on. Is this true or a fairy tale? if it is true what type and color light do I need? Thanks Daniel

I have used white lights for years. It takes some animals a bit of time to get used to them, but it doesn't take long at all. I find that hogs are the least sensitive and I've used red, green and white lights on them for a long, long time.

What you may want to do, Daniel, to "condition" the hogs, is install a "dusk to dawn" light on one the legs of the feeder. The piggies will get used to having the light on all the time, and when your MD light comes on, it's just more of the same to them. Just cheapo landscape lights, wired to the feeder leg, will do just fine. No need to invest in fancy, expensive lights.

I agree , white lights work fine just need to give them time to get used to it. I use motion activated yard lights mounted under the feeder

I use solar powered green landscape lights. I just set them up for dusk to dawn (or as long as the battery lasts). Even on cloudy days they charge enough to stay on for several hours. The hogs, deer and raccoons seem to be unaffected.

When I first started using lights it was white lights and they definitely spooked critters when they came on. I took some waterbased poly for woodworking and mixed some green food coloring in it, brushed it on and it made a big difference, just enough green to kill the white "shock".

Just like Jesus, sometimes you gotta kill some hogs.

As long as your feeder has corn available, "hogs, deer and raccoons seem to will be unaffected". They may be shy the first few times they are lit up with the color of your choosing, but will get used to it real quick. They seem to also shy away from sudden loud noises when their buds try to run while sideways.

Here's a recent pic of a hog chowing down under white lights. They don't care what color or if there's lights on around their feeding area. They want to snarf up as much corn as they can as fast as they can!!

I've used lights from Harbor Freight for years. They light up the area, and come on brighter when there is movement, and deer, hogs, etc., don't seem to pay any attention to them. I've watched hundreds of hogs over the years playing around under the feeders eating corn and could care less about the lights.

I've also used white lights from Harbor Freight. As Old Stony says, some are on dimly all the time and brighten when there's movement. I personally prefer the ones that go off completely when nothing is there so that I know 'something' is there when the light comes on. Hogs may shy away initially, but they soon return and before very long they don't seem to care a bit about the light.
