Once again Jan 31 is the deadline for NR elk apps in Wyoming. Info is up on the Hunt Planner but remember quotas are not set yet, may affect draws just a bit once quotas are set in April/May.

Remember to thank the outfitters association for the Jan 31 draw deadline and the stupid wilderness law.

And, the Super Tag deadline has been moved also to Jan 31 for that drawing.

Snow pack is almost non existent right now, pray for snow across the Rocky Mountain region.

Elk numbers are great across Wyoming, mule deer not so much, so good hunts in many folk's future for elk.

Had my cow elk license for Wyoming pushed back to next year. Had 3 surgery on my left hand between October & November this year. Provided doctor info and filled out the form so I'm good for next year. I'm glad Wyoming helps hunters out, would have been hard seeing that $700.00 go down the drain.

Great info! Why do you say mule deer numbers are low? When I went antelope hunting I saw tons

I some areas Jaspermac they are down and on private tend to be in better shape. It depends on the region in the state.
Drought and perhaps CWD has been an issue, but not all the state is having deer issues.
I'm mainly talking about big mature, mule deer bucks.
We had a huge deep snow last spring and it really knocked down some pronghorn and deer in SE Wyoming. We got 3 ft and it stayed around for weeks, not days. Animals tried to migrate out of it but had no where to go.

Still some great deer hunting but have reasonable expectations.
Elk numbers are through the roof all over the state. I would look closely at some reduced price cow licenses, many on public lands that open before the bull season. Good way to get some elk meat for cheaper and learn an area for a future bull hunt.

Wyoming is just not worth it any more as a non resident. Would be a great place to be a resident.

Price increases and point creep is insane. Will probably be 6 pts to just draw a general tag by the next time I draw it again.

Sorry you feel that way harge, we have some of the best elk hunting anywhere. Our limited licenses mean you'll have a quality hunt if you draw, we're not the orange army like Colorado.
And, yes I agree as residents we have it made for hunting.
Just wait til Colorado's wolves take a good hold, folks will really be looking at Wyoming and odds will definitely go up.

I've got 10 deer points and they just move from 11 points to draw to 13 points in the area I want to hunt. I'll be 68 when I have a chance for a monster mule deer. realmad

Let's see if I can bump this thread back up.

January 3-31, 2023 is elk application time for Wyoming.
Hunt Planner has tentative quotas and seasons up: https://wgfd.wyo.gov/Hunting/Hunt-Planner/Elk-Hunting/Elk-Map

I'm familiar with elk hunting around our area, General and a few LQ areas in SC/SE Wyoming.
It's been quite a few years since we hunted in Western Wyo but have done that.

I will finally cash in my elk points on a general tag. I just returned yesterday from cow hunting the Rock Springs area on a type 7 tag. I had a great time despite getting stranded in Laramie during the blizzard and turning what should have been a three hour jaunt from Laramie to Rock Springs into a 7+ hour tour of the state. Goes to show for anyone planning to hunt Wyoming, be ready for any and all weather.

Late season cow hunts can bring out the best in all of us, the weather can turn chitty at anytime. Talk about cold most people have never experienced Wyoming cold at it's best. For some it will be a first and last experience. I hope you filled your cow license and have a freezer full of elk.

Congrats on the cow !!
You should have rolled into the Library in Laramie, good beers and food.
Travel issue are the biggest hurdle late season, and if elk are down to the area you can hunt.

How hard was your access to find for the cow hunt?

Thanks! In hindsight I should have checked out Laramie a little more. Naively I hoped I-80 might reopen and I wanted to be able to take advantage.

As for the hunting, the area we hunted was mostly BLM and my good friend whom also had a tag works for Game and Fish so he had a solid knowledge of where the elk were hanging out. The hunt wasn't necessarily easy but we both tagged elk by noon and then the real work started. Luckily we had sleds and it was all downhill so we were able to bring them out mostly whole!
