We’re putting together a centerfire steel match nothing over 30 caliber.
500 yard tournament style shooting match double elimination. . $40 per person 50% payback. Match will be shot prone or from the bench shooter's choice.
We will be shooting at three different size targets first is an 8-inch Target for one point next is a 5-inch Target for two points and the last is a 3 inch Target for three points. Object is to score more points then the guy you are shooting against in five shots
Front bipod and rear sandbag only , location in valley view Texas
We will also be shooting Cold bore first thing in the morning as a side pot if a shooter wants to participate. It will be $10 per shooter. One shot whoever is closest to center wins. We will have a camera set up down there to spot the shots. Come with your gun prepared to shoot 500 yd. If you do not hit the target or the berm behind it you will be disqualified for the day. If this happens to you a second time you will be dismissed from the range for the rest of the year. The berm is 6 to 7 ft tall and 20 yards wide. Location valley view Texas.

Pretty much as Senior described. Shooters draw numbers for placement in the bracket. When pairings come up a coin toss decides who shoots first then alternate for the 5 shots….most points wins, loser moves to the losers bracket but can still make it into the finals with good shooting. Everybody does a good job following standard safety rules and it’s a great time with a lot of really good shooting going on.

Also you are allowed to have a spotter help you call your impacts and corrections.

I just don't see how you could miss a 3" target at 500 yards much less the berm. I don't have access anymore to a range where I can sight in that far so I would just turn the advised elevation from the JBMballistics calculator. Definitely going to need a spotter. Would it be possible to shoot a few shots to verify zero before shooting for score?

Plenty of time between now and then to visit Fossil Pointe and get your dope. OR, the shot in the Cold Bore contest is good for some final fine tuning.

There will be a deadline to sign up for the match .Thursday night before the match at 8:00 p.m. That will determine the bracket size. 16, 20 or 24 . Example, if there are 19 shooters signed up at 8:00 we will be using a 16 man bracket the last 3 shooters that signed up will be on the wait list. Also Thursday night at 8:00 will be the deadline to withdraw from the match. Anything after that your money is forfeited to the match. Only exceptions will be for emergencies, having a hangnail is not an emergency. Next year each shooter will have an official scorer. The person that is doing the official scoring will not be calling impact placement for the shooter. The shooter will have to get their own person to call shot placement for them . You guys will have to start helping each other out. Next year you will only be able to sign up for one match at a time. Sign up for the match will open up the Monday after the match . Sign up next year will be done on a website called practicecore. You will be able to pay how you want to on there. They are gun friendly. If you sign up for the match and cannot make it please notify me so that if somebody on the wait list wants to shoot they can.

I just don't see how you could miss a 3" target at 500 yards It sounds like you’re saying you can hit it every shot, am I wrong? I know I’ve nailed it a handful of times, missed a handful too. I completely understand it.

You've never played the wind in Seniors valley it has sent several shooters home with their tail between their legs licking their paws. Hope you can make it.

I completely understand it. I was being a bit sarcastic about missing the berm. No I do not expect to hit the 3 incher every time and would be happy to hit it at all!

Thanks for pointing out Fossil Point. I have access to a place I can shoot 500 yards north of West TX but I'll need to get a rangefinder to measure the range and put the target up in the right place.

Range finder….If you don’t know any hunters/shooters with one, check your friends that play golf….much more prevalent on the golf course.

Golfers are far more likely but one that goes to 500 yards or better probably not. I did hint the Ole Lady yesterday though and showed what I wanted.

Can’t speak for others but I tasted my 15 yr. old Bushnell ‘On Tour’ model a few minutes ago and ranged a tree at 678, furthest target available. I would guess most will do at least 500.

I realize this is dependent on the total number of people that shoot, but how many rounds of ammo is a best guess that will be needed?
