Picked up the Honda Odyssey that Codenforcer was giving away for my son to rebuild. Just turned 14 and at his age I was completely rebuilding dirt bikes and atvs so now he’s getting his chance. Doesn’t look like much right now but it will be loads of fun and learning along the way. Won’t really get a good start til probably January but he’s got plans tomorrow to start cleaning it up. Won’t rush it as it’s a learning experience and finding parts for a dang near 40 year old atv will be its own challenge. Taking suggestions now. Thanks Matt for passing it on. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2021/12/full-18960-328861-2f643b63_83c7_45c4_bdd4_46ecd71dba94.jpeg)

It should be fun, probably a little stressful at times but rewarding. Got to learn somehow.

... probably a little stressful at times... Dad bought me a partially restored '39 Ford coupe. He was an old car "purist", so he had me scraping the grease, grit, and grime off the underside for 3 weeks straight. I was 16. We fought like cats and dogs. Mom said we're selling it and nobody argued. I can still hear that V8.

Just now seeing this, looking forward to seeing you guys fix it up. The part yall didn't catch was, when I come for the test drive, my brother is dropping me off and I probably wont come back once I leave your driveway Okay that would actually be epic Pleasure meeting you guys and look forward to seeing and hearing it run. I have been trying for 20 plus years lol

Alot of newer parts can be used to upgrade it. I think its the TRX400 suspension can be used and you can get rotex motors for them too. There is a huge following and still should be able to get parts. Plastics are hard to find though.

Congrats! Make it a fun experience, not a learning experience. If he gets the bug, he'll be after you for the learning part.

Haven’t had much progress yet. Did get it power washed and 20 years of dust off of it. And does roll for now. Not sure how much I’d trust the tires but they will do for now.

Working on pulling the motor tonight. 50/50 shot on it being any good and I’d much rather work on it on the bench than hunched over. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2021/12/full-18960-329720-85cc97b6_5759_412d_99a0_8202289bcb1b.jpeg)

Well I guess he’s going to figure this out pretty quickly. Had the motor out and sitting on the bench in less than 30 minutes. Have the head pulled off and don’t like what I see so far. Will be trying to find a machine shop and a new piston and rings for it. If they exist still. Plan b will be welding new motor plates in and swapping something else in. He wants to learn to weld anyways. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2021/12/full-18960-329724-95a5af45_9797_450d_9d38_8058042d2cbd.jpeg) ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2021/12/full-18960-329725-a861285b_8bc0_4ea1_a6bb_8fb0a5843434.jpeg)

Now we sit and wait til I get a call from the machine shop. Hopefully they can just clean up the cylinder and don’t have to bore it any. Parts are obsolete so while we wait looking at motor swap options just in case.

Well machine shop called today and it needs to be bored out or re-sleeved. Neither sound like options because I can’t find a new top end to go in it. So now I’m kinda dead in the water figuring a new plan. Part of me wants to swap in some crazy street bike motor and the realistic side of me says not to. Id be afraid to put something to crazy in for fear it won’t be strong enough. Plus I’d then have to do something with the rear axle to beef it up too. Gonna be sitting for a few days til I get a solution figured out.

Have you checked with Wiseco? I’d be shocked if they didn’t have a top end kit in stock and just bore the cylinder.
