 Reached my last hunting goal for the season

My final last goal to hit for this year was to get my girlfriend on a good deer either in Leon county or here at the house. Had a great hunt this evening with a nice up and coming young 10 that came out early. Deer has a lot of potential and we’ve never seen him before. I was pumped for her when he came out as it would have been her biggest deer yet, but seeing how she saw he was young she elected to pass him and see what he becomes (glad she did, but I would have been pumped if she had shot him). 30 minutes before sundown a nether deer she decided shot came walking out. He’s 16 and 1/2 inches wide and got her super excited so she decided to take him. We noticed he had a bad limp and was very poor considering the the wet year we’ve had so that really sealed the deeds fate. She knocked him down with my dads savage 116 25-06 hand loaded with Hornady 117 grain round nose bullets. Upon inspection one of his left hind ankle was broke/swollen and infected, I’m guessing he got caught in a fence maybe or hood rot (do deer get hoof rot like a cow?)? Super happy for her and a great way to wind our season down! Have a special mount made for her erou at work and will post pictures once it’s done. Thanks for the info never considered that deer could get foot rot until today It is in more areas of the state than many realize. I saw 2 bucks with it in Goliad County a few years ago and saw/heard of many deer in Colorado and surrounding counties from around 2007-10. Some survive and do okay, some survive and are never the same antler quality wise(and get it again the next year or so) and many of them die or killed by other bucks in the rut. Saw it mainly in bucks but did see a couple of does with it.
