Any changes for you from first split? How many decoys do you run?
Still running spinning wings?

Never run wings, hunt cross winds 100% day, sun vs cloudy days regardless of wind if you can, more motion, pair up species to match scout, cut spread down significantly in numbers especially in stale birds

My strategy is flawless. Wait for the birds to get here.

Birds will probably get here Feb 1.

No matter how high a duck flies a hammer still breaks a window.

You hunt sunny days over cloudy? If so why is that?

Smaller decoy groups, cross wind, sun at your left shoulder if possible.

Never hunt the day after a full moon. Those days have ALWAYS sucked for me.

Other than that, GO FOR IT, bring what you got and cross your fingers.

After All, there is a reason we call someone Bird Brain!

Birds cannot see you as good on sunshine days, other than that its all the same.

Strategy? Load up all your chit and head to Kansas

Sun cast shadows. Makes you harder to see from the sky. On cloudy days they can see you better because theres no shadow (breakup). Ive killed them in both. But will atest, they can pin point movement better on cloudy days.

So interesting, I'd always thought the complete opposite. If you cast a shadow not only do you move but shadow does too. Also the sun will reflect more off your face or anything else with a glare. Now, I do know when the sun is at your back along with wind that's better b/c ideally they'd come in looking right into the sun and wouldn't be able to see as well. I dunno. Probably why I get skunked more than I do success, but I'll still give it a go!

Sun will rarely be at your back unless you have a S/SE wind. And youre set up to hunt that way. On most North wind days, sun will be in your face from the SE.

Only bad thing is when your wearing sunglasses and you tilt your head down to call and your glasses fog up! Happened to me Sunday and it sucks!

Don’t cut corners on cover and concealment late season. Put the sun at your back if you can, even if it means cross winding the birds. The part of texas I hunt there are usually more birds around the later in the season it gets. When that is the case I go to a big set. If I’m hunting slick water in a slack wind I like a jerk string in late season. Leave the guys at home that don’t hide well and can’t sit still and keep their head down. Stay off the call and don’t turn the birds till they are lined up so they can get in on the first pass. Call less. Once the ducks are hooked up on the decoys, let the dekes do most of the work.

Decoys look a lot better- if you have a day like 12-19, 29 degrees and small front, fresh birds doesn’t matter as much. If I can only hunt 1 day, I will choose sun over wind 100% of the time. Higher probability of success.

The most important variable is have ducks, and your hide.

I have always liked hunting the blue bird days better than overcast foggy ect. I can't say why, because I don't know why. I can guess but thats all it would be is a guess.

I was on a duck club that had a number of blinds facing east. I figured it had to be an inside joke of the older members or someone let a new hunter pick the blind locations. Either way, no excuse to ever hunt a morning facing East.

The idea is when its sunny there are shadows from the cover.....which is where you should be, in the shadows. No shadow casting, no glare from your face.

Depends on where you are hunting..

I don't really change much anymore.

1-2 dozen tops, 1-2 pulsators

And a few years ago I quit setting up to have them finish right in front...

I always try for a cross wind and put my spread to the left or right. Even if I have a straight away wind I'm probably putting decoys to the left or right.

I have some spots that I have to set up Southeast because the land directly behind is private. It's tough as birds get a good view of my blind. I don't hunt those much after the split. I will say, facing north with a south wind at my back and trees behind me has produced well. Most birds don't circle except maybe the pintails. But you've got to be ready because many times they're landed in the dekes before you know it.

I hunt mornings facing East or close to it plenty, all depends cloud cover, wind direction, and natural cover.

If the ducks want to be where you are and you are hidden there isn't much else to it. Scouting is the hunting part for me.
