What state would you say is the most accessible with a good chance at a diy spring turkey hunt? I’ve hunted Nebraska before. Thinking I might try New Mexico this year but just starting to research….

Good question. Texas has a lot of public land for eastern birds but really low success. Never tried out of state but have thought about it.

I would lean strong to researching areas in Kansas. Lots of accessible public land and a large Turkey population. I know on my bird hunts into Kansas, I see Turkeys all the time. Way more than any state I have hunted in.

Here’s the list I have so far. New Mexico, Kansas, South Dakota, Wyoming, Montana, and Oklahoma (black kettle). I’ve done ok at black kettle on quail before but never saw a turkey. So that’s probably last on my list. But I read today It can be good
