I used to have a friend that was big time into rattlesnake hunting/trapping/removal and selling live for venom, meat, skins ... I lost contact with him years ago.

I have a friend from church who lives around Troy, that has killed about 9-10 rattlesnakes in the past couple of months while in the process of tearing down an old barn and are building a new shop/barn.

Where do you find someone that will possibly locate the den and remove rattlesnakes??? Maybe someone on here that does this as a hobby???

What makes you think there is a 'Den' nearby? Fewer than a dozen rattlesnakes around an old building is nothing exceptional.

Rattlesnake 'Dens' are relatively scarce, but IF you find one...it will have snakes in it and be used year after year.

I’ve gassed and sold thousands of them. They travel quite a ways from a den, so there’s not necessarily one nearby.

10 or less around an old barn over a 2 month period is not to be unexpected (if in good snake country). Not only is it good cover, but it will harbor Rats and Mice which is why the snakes are there.

IF you found a half dozen or more snakes in one outing in one place....I would be a little more concerned....but still not suspect a 'Den' is necessarily around or that the barn itself were being used as one.

I found this little den a couple years ago about 15 yards from my blind. It was in January on a sunny day when I walked past it and heard a buzzing sound. I thought to myself, odd for cicadas to be out this time of year? Then I saw where the sound was coming from 😳

Gonna guess his place is on the west side of 35 I know a lot of people In Troy and for some reason that is where most of the rattlers are. I know several people that live in Troy that catch rattlers. People call me country but there is a young man that is really country or crazy. A guy had some rattlers under a old house and this guy crawled under it and killed several of the snakes with a sling shot. Don’t know if there is a den on his property but we should be able find it if it’s there. [Linked Image]

The snakes are there because there is snake food there. Put out a ton of rat poison and you'll have fewer snakes. Better yet, put out two tons. The fewer mice the fewer snakes.

thanks for the input!!!

agree with a lot of the comments but with the numbers they have killed recently, just seems odd that many were just passing thru without a den somewhere fairly close by, but guess that's possible. They have cats, dogs, horses, donkeys, etc.

Espy, you have a PM

If you find the rattlesnakes between now and Feb then a den is close by. If anyone has a den on their place and you want the snake removed then let me know and i'll come get them.

Gassing and catching rattlesnakes is more fun and exciting than deer hunting, gator hunting or pig hunting. It's a rush like jumping out of an airplane!!!

Agree Elvis’p.
My place South of Bowie used to be loaded with them. Then the pigs moved in and it was game over.

I've killed probably 15 hogs the last two months. Wonder if I have a Den of Pigs nearby?

Me too, I guess the pigs don’t get rid of copperheads and cotton mouths like they do rattle snakes.

Check with Big Country Snake Removal. They might know someone down that way. A guy who hunts next to us has permission to snake hunt our place. He removes around 50 from our place each year but we are in Montague.

That would make an interesting discussion I think. Many variables I suppose. I have plenty of pigs throughout the year...but have seen no decline in Copperheads on my property. I don't have rattlesnakes...so can't comment on that.
