A year ago I saw a TV show that said in some Mexican households the women folk get together and make a big pan of tamales for New Year's Eve. Any of you folks do that? Thought I might give it a try.

Nov and Dec are big months for the Mexican ladies to make tamales, and then their husbands walk thru the parking lots selling them for $10/dozen. I usually just give them a 10 or 20, and say they can sell them again or give them to the food shelter. Makes me feel good, and doesn't hurt their pride. Always get a big smile and a handshake

My Red Nexican household makes 50-100 dozen a year, normally. It's a big event that includes everybody, men and women. The more help, the better.

The $10 cost is outdated, today the tamale vendors are getting $12 to $15 a dozen. Very few listed at $12, and they are smaller.

Unless you have a crew that knows what they are doing, it is better to just buy them. Today the supplies cost more and finding them can be a challenge. Our neighbor always gives us a few dozen, hers are the best we have ever had.

There’s a lady that works out parking lot frequently around the holidays. Green chili chicken tamales. She sells out real fast at $15-$20 a dzn. Our neighbors grandma typically brings some over to us around the holidays as well. She speaks zero English, but holy crap she can cook!

I bought two dozen for $12 a dozen pass Saturday from someone on next door that posted they were making them to sale. I then made some salsa verde. I saw someone else post this morning about making them.

The ladies in my family normally get together around this time and make some for the family. With COVID they took a break unsure if they’re going to try this season.

Wife's family has always made them. If you want to talk about work then its making Tamales! The devils in the details like all good cooking. The Masa, the chile colorado, chile verde for the green ones, the muenster cheese and the pork butts all have to be prepared with attention to certain details. This talk of Tamales makes me want to take a trip over to Hell Paso and pick up 4 or 5 dozen. If you ever get the chance Don Lupitas in that border town has hands down some of the tastiest Tamales on the planet! Oh while your there pick up some fresh Carnitas!

My problem, if I make a big batch is that I can't stop eating them.

I was approached in a parking lot in Colorado by someone selling them. I politely declined. As I was leaving I was wondering if they might have been really good and if they were safe to eat. I’m picky about my food prep.

You probably missed out on a good meal and a good deal.

For us lazy people find a recipe for tamale pie. Not the same but it is pretty good. Basically what we do is fry some ground meat or use some shredded BBQ pork. Cornbread mix, a can of corn, my wife likes hominy, so sometimes hominy. Hatch green chilis, use a taco or enchilada seasoning. Topped with shredded cheese.

The school cafeterias in the 50s used to also make it. They mixed all of the ingredients in a cornbread batter, then a layer of cornbread batter. After it was baked they added shredded cheese.

I ordered 4 dozen pork tamales from a friend / ex-coworker of mine. His mother makes them, and he brings them to work a few times a year. I called him up and she is still making them for 12 buck a dozen, which is too cheap compared to everyone else. Here`s the last tamales I got from her. Greatness

My processor went up a few cents on things, which was expected, he didn't go up on his tamales. I get them for $10/dozen.
