Anyone here ever hunt Gambrels or Montezuma quail? Since I have my NM license, I was thinking about giving one or both a shot next month.

I have shot both in SE Arizona. The Montezuma (Mearn's) habitat is beautiful and challenging. They hold really tight in the covey and flush dramatically. It's a really sporty bird and every serious quail hunter should experience this hunt.
The Gambel's are also a neat bird residing in scrub desert in really large coveys. Once the covey is busted the singles work is a lot of fun.
Both species are lovely in the hand.
Go, have fun and report back please.
And why, today, remember misses?
