Howdy all,
So I’ve recently moved to a thumb release about a month or so ago and have noticed that, while my groups have gotten better, I’m shooting consistently low, about 2” at 20 yards. I’ve tried following Nockon Archery’s John Dudley’s advice in holding and anchoring my index finger and middle finger to my lower jaw, is there an issue with this form that anyone knows of? Or am I just needing to drop my pins a hair? Or is it perhaps a good idea to just leave the pins where they’re at for a consistent low shot to avoid shooting over my target, be it a deer, hog, turkey, etc.?
What y’all figure???

Could be several things but are you sure you are still looking through the peep sight in the middle. There might be just a little difference in your anchor point location essentially causing your peep to be a little lower, this could also be from drawing a little longer distance if the bow does not have a firm back wall such as a limb stop that creates a very solid back wall. Cable stops can be drawn a little beyond intended stop location.
Those are to me the most common when switching releases, that I remember. Had one guy that I lengthened his d-loop a little and got him back on with his new 4 finger Edge release.
What is your setup?

I’ve got an Elite Ember with a 27.5 draw length and 60lb weight, everything standard from the manufacture, had the bow tuned back when I bought it about 6 months ago. Using a 4 finger Edge release.

I do like my Edge 4 finger releases. If you are consistent at all yardages low just move your peep sight up down a little at a time to et back on would be easiest. That bow has limb stops so I would expect a good solid back wall. That would come in if you are nt fully drawing the bow or were not with your previous release. Quick check for that is to shoot with your previous release and see if you are low now as well. Those are standard factory production strings and the strings and cables might have stretched a little causing a little less speed giving more drop to you arrow, that would be more pronounced as shot distance increased.

I switched to a thumb release when using my compound recently. I moved the pins, they are designed to be adjusted and it only makes sense to me to move them accordingly. Problem solved.

I figure you aren't going to find help with that on here. Very few folks shoot a thumb ring. I'd try Archery Talk as I've seen a couple of threads on it over the years there. It's more of a world wide forum.

If that’s the type release you want to use then I would move my pins and be done with it. Just be careful not to touch off that style release with your cheek. Have had two different hunters do that on my lease and both switched back to wrist style.

Edge is a 4 finger release dual caliber with the Trigger activated by the thumb. I have been using one for 7 or 8 years without any issues and have sold quite a few of them, this is not a back tension ring release. Before that since the very early 80s I used and still shoot with a Hot Shot 3 finger release thumb release that was made in Rockwall Texas. This video is not of that release but of a very similar design an gives good information on shooting a thumb release. If you fire the bow by pulling the trigger with your cheek on the Edge 4 Finger you are doing something wrong and need to revisit your anchor point and hand position. Ring release or back tension release I would not hunt with, but that may be just me.

Just as a quick up date if anyone was still wondering.... I started playing with my anchor point and found that I was holding a little high on my cheek. I lowered my point maybe a half inch and that brought me back up to center. Goes to show it’s often the Indian and not the bow! Appreciate everyone’s insight and help! That’s why I love this forum! Happy shooting!
