Saw this 4yr old in person last week and noticed some skin hanging down and a bad limp. Seemed to be doing OK. Thought he might have had a rough fight and was just a little banged up as this was a new injury (seen several times over the course of the season and almost daily on camera). Finally got some good pics and it looks like a pretty clear brisket shot. Was a little surprised as this deer hung almost entirely on the interior of our property but all bucks can take a vacation and he got shot by a neighbor on his.

Given he has still been active and can hop in and out of pens fine, do y’all think he is good? Doesn’t seem to be in a bad body shape outside of the shot. Would hate to see a deer with his potential go down before his time due to a careless shot. If so, hopefully he learned his lesson about vacations.

Looks healthy to me, maybe he learned a valuable lesson. Or, maybe not, he's still going to feeders smile.

Looks like a fence injury to me. Have seen several look just like that before and always healed up.

You never know but probably fine. I agree it may not be a bullet wound. Nice buck.

To me too. And if a bullet wound more like a brisket graze than true hit. Deer I shot in brisket from 200 yards with .243 made it about 30 yards.

Answers are reassuring. A fence makes more since given his range but it just seemed deep a channel to be from jumping a fence. I feel like that is a good 2” scoop. Either way agree he is in decent shape. Saw him again this evening and he didn’t seem to be struggling
