killed this sow about 2 hours ago and I’m wondering, are the white hooves pretty common? The front 2 were white while the hind 2 were black. I’ve seen this before but obviously most are black. What are you seeing?

I saw a dead, completely white piglet in the road yesterday. Is that like the mythical white buffalo? Does it mean something?

Have seen several like it. Our hogs are 99% black or grizzled but you will see the odd black one have white feet or a grizzled one have a lighter grizzled color belly and feet.

Gary, take a look at the hog I just posted under "Big Pig" on this thread. He had the same coloring: white feet in front, black in back.

Here in the US, we are hunting feral hogs. This includes hydrids from a very limited few actual European wild boar, but the vast majority of our stock is based on the domestic hog that is now loose in the wild. As such, hogs are going to carry with them a lot of their domestic genes including those of coloration.

I killed these sows two nights ago.




Dark hind feet and white front feet may be indicative of a Hampshire hog heritage (though I am sure there are others).

Yes sir, I saw White Socks. This sow also had a white band around only one side of her. Hoping her friends and family come out soon, I’m getting sleepy

Got a variety running around here. Seems the white and black splotched ones are a little rarer than the browns blacks and greyish ones.
