I’m looking for what you used for your trip. I’m booked for a trip the last week of July and I’ve told them I’m only showing up with a bow.

Tom Miranda used a 90 plus pound Mathews.

I work hard, drink a little and hunt when I can.

Check the country you are hunting, some I think have minimum draw weight set for them and I would want a heavy weight forward design arrow. I have read some good reports of Easton FMJ Dangerous game arrows working well on them. Never hunted them myself and if I did it would be with a rifle. My days of 80lb bows are behind me now. Definitely not an animal to skimp on the broadheads either.

I would check with the PH on recommendations.

Get on a couple of archery centric sites and find out what people who actually went have used. As I recall it ends up being a lot of somewhere around 900 grain arrows, and bow weights from 70 to 90 lb. But once again like most people that are going to try to give you an answer I haven't been there and done that LOL. Find people that have and get the information you need, don't take the word of a bunch of people like me who've never done it. Good luck

Here's another useless recommendation. If they can't climb trees and I'm betting they can't, I'd climb one before the shot. The thicker and higher the better. But, just like RJH1, I ain't been there and I ain't done that.

Arrow weight of 850 to 950 grains is ample, and I would suggest a single bevel broadhead (Grizzlystik or Iron Will), please do not use mechanical on dangerous game. Don't worry about going to heavy on your bow's draw. I have had clients kill Buffalo with 70# before. If you can get higher, all good. But if you can't hold full draw for more than 2 minutes, rather come down till you can.

If you are hunting from a blind and have the opportunity to wait for the perfect angle, then take it with the Buffalo quartering slightly away and sneak the arrow in behind the crease of the shoulder. Broadside works fine too but beware of the thick bone that sits just in front and slightly below the heart. I have seen that bone stop an 800-grain arrow fired at 30-yards dead in its tracks and the hunter got almost no penetration, so don't go too low on the shot. If the Buffalo is facing you, you can put it square in the middle of his chest once his head is raised.

Good luck, nothing gets the adrenaline pumping like a Buff hunt with a bow.

Kind of like trying to slip an arrow into a bull dozer for a kill. Better have a plan B when all hell breaks lose. I will be looking forward to your write up and wish you a successful trip.
