Noticed a TV news report that thieves are now targeting Ford pickup taillights. Because the lights include a computer that communicates with the vehicle’s main computer, replacements will run you over $1,000 each.

Ridiculous considering how earlier designs were simple, cost a small fraction of that and yet satisfied the need completely.

Yea, they have something in there that tells if they are out and the blind spot detection is in there as well. Never priced them but wouldn't doubt they are that high. Tailgate locks with the doors usually so they would be harder to get if that is locked.

Every pickup needs one of these, do not ever rely on the factor lock.

I’ll gladly install the lock for free on any THF members pickup at my convenience.

Yes, a simple upper/lower radiator hose clamp will work but, is not as secure.

I’m not joking and will be in Waco Saturday afternoon.

Damn, what a shame.....

GM has those high dollar tailights as well. I can attest that a 2019 Yukon Left Tail Light will cost 996.23.

This will save your tailgate, but not your tail lights. Only have to open to the tailgate to get to those.

But agree, a lock or a hose clamp will help deter the tailgate thieves. Damn shame we have to do that stuff.

Was shocked when I first set the lock button on my new Tundra and heard a lock in the back in. Went to look and the tailgate has a lock on it that is automatic when you lock or unlock the vehicle.

Dealers like to add the electronic tailgate locks and charge big markups when they don't come with them from the factory.

It's fairly well known that dealerships make far more on Service work than profits made selling vehicles.

which is why they make these car just secure enough to keep the customer happy with their false sense of security. Stolen cars , stolen trucks , stolen parts make more sales . More sales make more money .

You don’t need that fancy lock. A hose clamp on the tailgate hinge then lock the tailgate. Even if they get the gate open they won’t waste time on the hose clamp.
