Doc,

The 2 unfired rounds do show light primer strikes. If the firearm got debris/dirt inside the trigger in the wreck, this could easily cause the light primer strikes. I have had to clean out my triggers and bolts on numerous occasions when this would happen. The first thing I would do is clean out the bolt. Take it apart by removing the firing pin out of the bolt (YouTube is your friend). Clean the firing pin, bolt and spring well. Reassemble. You can also clean the actual trigger out with lighter fluid or carb/brake cleaner. I would do these 2 cleaning items, and it should solve your problem. If not, something else is going on.

On the picture, Of course the primers are going to look different in seating depth from the fired rounds to the unfired rounds. The fired rounds had about 60,000 psi pushing the primer back against the bolt face.

Had a lot of light strikes from shotgun shells to 556, no problem before COVID, I say for the most part it’s QC at the factory

UPDATE:

Took the bolt apart and cleaned the firing pin and spring. It was a little dirty, but not a lot of debris in there. I'll give it a try next time I am at the range and see if I am still getting the light strikes.

I once had a 708 in an encore platform. I had the same thing happen with the same silver cased ammo. Many years ago
