This happened not far down the road from us. Unimaginable. Please Pray for this family. And the vile, ignorant comments on social media when something like this happens is also unfathomable.

I live on the west side Hallsville, and am afraid I might know the family. Prayers going up for them.

No doubt
All that should be said is a lot of prayers for this family at this time yet there are always those keyboard warriors that type ignorant chit out and post it.
Sickening to say the least.

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

Tragic. I can’t even imagine the pain this family is going through and will be going through. Prayers to them.

It makes me sick to my stomach just thinking about it. I can't imagine what the family is going through. I also don't understand how something like this can happen.

So so sad. Can't even imagine. Prayers out to the family, especially the dad who was there.

Perfect opportunity for us all to reflect on our own gun safety practices, and what/how we teach our children. Not insinuating anything about this particular incident, but just a PSA message for us all.

The TPWD will no doubt perform an extensive review of how the event transpired and will likely publish a brief overview in next year's Texas Hunting Accidents Report. These are published every year, made available online, and offer Texas hunters many good reminders on how to hunt more safely.

As a father of 3 boys, this makes me sad.

What are the details on how it happened? That link didn't provide any detail.

Prayer for the best to family and friends. It is still under investigation so very little in details.
Here is a news cast video that explains some off the accident.

Annual statistics have shown that more hunting-related shooting accidents can happen in and around vehicles where hunters often assemble and handle their firearms than in the field where hunting is actually taking place. Surprisingly, mistaking someone for game is not as common as you might believe.

Also, a key point not to be missed from this incident, and which the local Sheriff points out during his press conference, is the importance of documenting how to reach the area where you hunt so that someone can direct First Responders to you in case of an emergency. While cell network triangulation is possible given sufficient signal strength, you can't always depend on it. And this is especially true if you often hunt alone and don't show up when you told someone when you would be back. This allows for your wife or others who may or may not be present and who may not be familiar with the area to tell emergency personnel how to reach the area where you should be.
