Hunted the third season on private land near Cortez, southwest corner of the state, with 3 other hunters. We had a great trip and 3 of us got deer. The 4th hunter saw a giant buck and hunted him until the end but came up empty.
I watched this buck come into a grain field late Tuesday evening and sat up an ambush for him Wednesday morning. I sat on a almost bare hill for an hour and a half waiting on him. I expected him to come within 200 yards on his way back to a canyon but that didn't work out, but with a solid rest and lots of help from a Leupold CDS scope I was able to kill him. [Linked Image]

Love that part of the state. Doesn’t look like you had much to hide behind. Nice one. Congratulations.

Heck of a nice buck! Congrats

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

Beautiful buck! I have spent some time in the Cortez area, usually the shots in SW Colorado are quite long. What were you shooting?

I sat behind a knee high sage bush that morning for about an hour and a half. Could not stand for about 3 minutes when I tried to get up whistle. Old man syndrome.

Tika T3 in 300 Win Mag, 180 grain Hornady SST Leupold VX-3i CDS scope. I had a solid rest and plenty of time. Shot was 500 yards. Deer fell 10 yards from where I shot it and never moved. I am not a good shot but I am a believer in the CDS system.
