Had a good hunt with Ed Hanson this morning. 34 birds, 22 gadwall and 12 teal. He said the birds just showed up thursday.

Not much to report today. Hunted some public land this morning. 2 mergansers and 1 wood duck. Hardly nothing flying this morning. Very few shots heard. Friday. Find any birds after the hunt either. Drive back home saw very few ducks on area ponds.

Maybe this front tomorrow will bring some fresh birds.

On a side note, do wood ducks eat horse apples? Found a handful of them in a puddle under a horse apple tree. I figure the woodies are eating them when they get soggy and can be picked at.

Family day tomorrow and then will give it a go on friday.

Hunted lake A yesterday. Not as many birds as opening day but a decent number. Mostly grays but a few big ducks. Fewer teal seen than opening day.

Drove from Houston up to the ranch in Western Young County yesterday . Daw very few ducks anywhere on the whole way up . Sitting on my pond this morning I have three ducks and have saw a couple other flocks. Still real low numbers in the areas where I am driving . Usually see ducks on all the ponds by now .

That confirms what I've seen. Few birds on the ponds.

Handful of GWT, 8-10 mallards and a guy that decided to setup 75 yds from me so we could stare at each other was only things seen yesterday. No birds were harmed thanks to his obsession with mojos and superb calling ability.

2 wood ducks and a gwt this morning. Again not much flying, not many shots heard, no wind probably didn't help anything

I have a four acre pond on my place in southwestern Grayson county less than a mile as the crow flies from Ray Roberts. This is the fewest ducks and geese I've seen in the 20 years I've been here. It doesn't get hunted so no pressure. Has it just not been that cold up north? Zero ducks most mornings. Usually, I'll have at least 40-50 mallards, teal, pintails and the geese will show up at dusk. I have a feeder out on a smaller pond and it hasn't been touched.

Weather and a bad recruitment due to drought I suspect. It's starting to freeze up in sd nd but rivers are still open. I don't know about crop production in ne and ks.

Ducks are down just concentrated on the best habitat. Full lakes in the spring and no rain in the late summer isn’t the best for north Texas lakes.

Larger ponds I hunt holding ducks - mainly gadwalls last week - ringers starting to show in big numbers. No mallards in the last week and a few large groups of GWT. Neighbor said Canvasbacks showed up last few days. Harvest numbers up 70% (including geese and blue wing) from 2020. Sago pondweed loaded up common denominator. Find food you will find ducks. Lots of bare mudflats on ponds, which ducks can see and totally avoid.

I'm starting to see some in the local ponds. Gadwalls and some teal. Hagerman wildlife refuge is close to me, and they have quite a few pintails, spoonies and teal. I saw a few mallards, but not a lot.

I've got a spot with good amount of duckweed on it. Birds have been coming in regular. Not big numbers but it's clear they know it's there.

Things got a little better at our place yesterday. Mallards, and gadwalls showed up in force! Had my boys hunting with me so I held off and let the go at it. He did get a nice gaddy for the wall!

Went up into a creek this morning looking for wood ducks. Saw several woodies flying however I was about 300 yards off the x. Probably could have shot my limit of 3 if I would have taken a couple of passing shots at first light, but wanted them in the decoys. Ended with 1 drake.

Still optimistic that the hunting will get better, probably be mid December as I'm not showing a significant cold front in the long term forecast.

Overall put about 2k miles on the truck with 8 hunts and a whopping 16 ducks.

Ducks have moved onto tanks 2 and 7...finally. it's a little late for them. Haven't seen the mallards come onto tank 1 yet. I think they usually get there about the first week in December. Last year they were early.

Too many idiots hunting public and pushing birds during scouting……getting to the point not worth it any more. If you don’t own property, I would suggest knocking on private doors- much better, safer- etc

Takes a bit of driving and luck- along with friendly owners- I used to have 6+ holes off 380 west of NTTW- great while it lasted. All highly developed now.

Mallards showed up on tank 1. Just like clockwork. I will say, numbers on all sightings are about half of normal.

Appx 30 on tank 5 this week. Resting, not eating. Hard to tell on tanks 2 - 4. Owner doing some grading around them.

Didnt get to hunt Monday as the little one got sick Sunday night.

Went this morning and got 4 gadwall and a wigeon. Better bird numbers but still not great. Suppose to be in the 80s tomorrow....crazy.

This was Wednesday. Birds on all tanks except 3 and 4. None were big ducks. Good numbers on 5 resting. Only feeding were on 7.

3 and 4, which always hold birds (either 3 or 4, never both) had some work done around the tank. May be next year. I still think major changes to a tank throw some returning birds off. Not seeing what they expect. Just an hypothesis at this point.

Ended with 3 teal and 2 ringnecks. Birds flew ok considering i still can't find any good concentrations of birds.

Well see what this little front does tomorrow
