Good morning gents. I was given this Alliant / Unique powder. Its nearly full and was opened at some point. Not a strong odor to it like newer powder. Does anyone know the part #, application/use and age? Thinking shotgun powder.

Thanks for any insight.

I’m not sure but I wouldn’t even consider using an unknown powder in anything I own. That’s a disaster waiting to happen in the worst way. I’ve heard of numerous guns blown up this year from hand me down powders or stuff that’s been sitting around in Pa Pa’s closet from 1972 that had god knows what dumped in the jug.

It’s not that old like 2000’s I’d load it without any concern

If you are scared of it I’d take it off your hands

Works great for 45 Colt standard loads.

Not hot loads. It tends to spike when pushed.

Probably one of the most versatile pistol powders out there. Can be used in almost any pistol, long a standard for 38 special, and there is even load data for up to 44 mag. Lots of folks use it in 9mm and .40S&W too. There are shotgun applications too.

Unique is the exact name of the powder. There is only one although they have slightly changed the formulation over the years to make it burn cleaner. They have however kept the burn rate and energy the same so old load data is still valid.

Should have a date on the bottom of the jug. Should smell like solvent.

Got it. Unique is the brand and the type/part number. Thanks for the info guys. Date on the bottom of the jug is slightly cut off. Looks like Jan 2007. Also looks like this powder has been around for years and has lots of applications.

It has little odor.

Unique is just one of many powders from Alliant. It has been around for years and the later powder but do not remember when is much cleaner burning than the old formulation but like said above the energy and burn rate are the same as before just a bit cleaner burning. Very versatile powder.

Can be used for smaller shotguns but works best for pistol. It doesn't do anything great but does a lot of stuff pretty well.

Pass the gravy.

71 Rcode, did you ever find a date on the bottle? I have a can of Unique with paper sides and metal top and bottom that I bought somewhere around the late '70s or early '80s. It has "UN 321" stamped on the bottom, but if that's a date, I can't figure it out. Could be a lot number.
