We have had pictures of this buck and Lil has seen him a couple times. I decided to hunt him with my 51 year old 30-30 that I picked up a couple years ago. Yesterday at Lilly’s recommendation I hunted a particular stand that she suggested. When I snuck up to the place, there were already three doe there. I made myself a makeshift blind out a small mesquite tree and a little cedar cover for my face. The buck passed by about 5:40 and I was able to get the shot off. It was a great hunt and I was blessed with my largest buck to date. I seldom actually shoot deer anymore and hunting with the 30-30 made it so much better. .

Heck of a nice 9 point. Looks like your daughter is good at picking places for you to hunt. Congratulations.

Okdrabbit, yes she is. She has become quite the hunter herself. She is on the forum as lillygrace.

A nice reminder in these days when so many are lusting after the latest fad, few rifles have been used to take more deer than the trusty 30-30.

Congratulations on a very nice deer.

That is one awesome buck. More on rifle? Marlin? No scope is impressive too.

I recently started taking out my 71 Marlin 30-30. I love it.

Great buck Trigger, your daughter sure knows her way in the woods. Are these great bucks off family ranch?

Beautiful deer. Near Graham? And on the 30-30 – totally agree. I have a 1964 336 that belonged to my dad and it's my favorite rifle.

I'm with you on seldom squeezing off on one but I'd be hard pressed to not harvest that critter! Nice buck. Congrats.

The rifle is a Glenfield/Marlin Model 30. It was made by Marlin and is stamped JM Marlin. Sold with cheaper wood back in the day. This one was made i. 1970

This deer was taken off of my father-in-law’s place. It has been in the family since around 1960.
