Not great at aging these guys but I'm guessing 2 yr old bucks, they're beside each other grazing. Sorry for the picture quality, using a cheap ATT prepaid phone for service out here.
May as well be a potatoes. As this hunts wraps up and I didn't pull the trigger I'm still very happy. I needed this time out here to relax and seeing some up and comers is promising.

Axis can be hard to age but they typically mature around 3-4 rather than whitetail at 5-6 years old, my opinion.

Had to be a great experience hunting on your place for the first time. Whitetail and axis is a good way to start the hunt.

Good to know one was spike in velvet other had hardened antlers maybe 18 inches at most. Was hoping their dad or big brother would come out.

It was awesome, especially it being small acreage. Definitely thanked the Lord for a great first hunt, been dumping feed over the past week. Got protein feeder towards middle of the ranch and two existing feeders on opposite ends of the ranch. Put a trophy rack block at each feeder and alfalfa along with corn. Gotta make it enticing for them. Next will be water at the feeders.

Heard a hog earlier while walking but couldn't get the rifle in time. Gonna be fun for sure!

That doesn’t necessarily mean they will carry a large rack at the maturity age, just like whitetail. Your 18” may have been a 3 or 4 year old.

cheers When we had axis on one ranch I managed they peaked at 5 antler quality wise...score, mass and tine length. It was a stage growth from 1 to 2, 2 to 3 and 3 to 4. Then at 5 you could see the body size and antler size on the ones we had.

Just got back from a week in Val Verde and the RUT is on for sure. I was the only one not to pull the trigger but we shot some WT, Axis, and saw a Aoudad but could not get a shot. I have some bucks on camera that i was waiting on and will hopefully see them when i am back out in 2 weeks.
