My Birthday was last Wednesday so I took the last half of the week off and headed up to the lease. Wednesday afternoon sit was the usual doe and yearlings, but no bucks.
Thursday hunts were similar with no real buck activity to speak of, but with the front that had come through, we were seeing more buck movement on the cameras.
The "Split G2" buck I was after had been all over one of our Cameras on the opposite side of the lease Thursday evening and early Friday morning, so I honestly didnt have high hopes of seeing him Friday morning, but I hunkered down in the blind and told myself I was going to hunt as long as I could that morning.
Well I didnt have to wait long, just before 8:30 the glint off some antlers caught my eye off in the mesquite thicket to my right about 50 yards away. The opposite direction I was expecting anything to come from. I got my binoculars up but I couldnt get a look at him as he was moving fast moving right to left.
I got my 30-06 up and lined up on the opening he was headed towards. As soon as he stepped out, I was able to identify the distinct split g2 and as soon as he stopped, Boom!! He went about 60 yards and piled up.
