Bought some Federal Premium Palma Sierra Matchking 155gr 308 yesterday. It’s supposed to be hollow point, but the microscopic holes just look like bullets with a little of the copper jacket laid over the top. Honestly, they look like defective bullets. They’re also 1/8-3-16” longer than a standard 308 round. Does anyone have experience with these as a hunting round? The guy said it was a great hunting round, but can’t find many favorable reviews of them as a hunting round. They seem to seat well in my chamber despite their being so much longer. [Linked Image]

Those aren't hunting rounds. they are match rounds. They are not going to reliably expand on animal tissue.

You may kill a critter, but those are just as likely to pencil through, doing minimal damage and leaving little blood trail.

The word "Matchking" in the title tells it all. This is 100% match ammunition, not a hunting round.

Sierra also has the Gameking brand. More tailored for hunting round.

I don’t like busting bone on deer, but for this bullet I’d make an exception. The only shot I’d take with this would be high-shoulder, where you get spine and send shoulder fragments through the upper lungs. If you shoot heart/lungs with this you stand a good chance of penciling through and having a long hard tracking job.

If folks use .223, .243 and other smaller rounds for deer hunting, I bet that will knock down a deer no problem.
I use the Winchester Match 308, 168gr BTHPs as a hunting round. I have killed, barasingha, red stag, whitetail, dybowski sika, axis, and others without issue, and killed them quickly.

Edit to add Gemsbok, oryx, and 100s of pigs.
