What was your first whitetail killed and what type of bow did you use for that first kill? Also, what year was your first kill.
Mine was a 6 point buck using a bear whitetail II eccentric wheel set at 55 lbs shooting straight down (about a 10 yard shot) back in 1986.

Deer reaction 2 hops stopped looked around and saw the arrow sticking up, walked over to it and got the wobbles and fell basically where it had been standing. Easiest recovery of an archery deer. Shot did not hit bone slid between ribs in, through both lungs and between ribs exit.

New York State, forked horn WT (4 pt) with 55# Bear Kodiak Magnum, cedar arrow w/ 2 blade Bear broadhead. It was in a backyard apple orchard at my History teachers house.

Took him at 17 yards with a 100 grain rocket sidewinder, ran about 40 arcs and piled up

2011 Diamond iceman bow set on 70#. Flumg those 390 grain arrows about 274 fps

1990 in Kendall County and it was a doe at 18 yards. It was using a PSE set at 70# and Easton aluminum arrows. Not exactly sure on the broadhead, but I think it was a fixed 100 grain 3 blade. There was a pile of deer within 30 yards of me and I picked her since she was on the backside of a group and broadside. Getting drawn was iffy but I did and she stepped just as I released the arrow. I hit her a bit low and back and she bolted and ran straight away from with the other deer scattering like a covey of quail. I seen her run then heard her hit a tree. It was getting dark quick and it was thick with very tall grass. So I started to track her and then got close the tree she hit when I heard her take her last gasp about 20 yards south of me. She hit the tree so hard she broke one of her hind legs. She severed the main artery in that leg and bled to death instantly.

My first bow kill was 2003 if I remember correctly. It was on a lease in Fl. I shot her at 30 yards mid morning. It was a perfect double lung. She ran straight into the thick stuff, and I heard her crash. I waited about 20 mins, then went looking. For some strange reason, i couldn't find a good blood trail, but found her by going to where I heard the crash. I was shooting a Bear vapor 3000 with a 100 gr muzzy 3 blade. I believe the reason why I couldn't find a blood trail was just my own inexperience.

I don't remember exactly the year, was between 1997 & 1999. 10 point buck on a foggy opening morning. Victoria County, shooting a Pearson Stryker at 68lbs and 100gr Muzzy broadheads. There were 5 bucks there, he was the biggest at 20 yrds. I got buck fever bad, and pulled the shot. Hit him in the hind quarter. Trailed him for most of the day and jumped him twice. Finally snuck up on him under a huisache and finished him off with a 22 pistol. I was embarrassed and mad at myself for making a bad shot, but it felt really good to finally put my hands on him.

I bow hunted back in the nineties on public land for a few years unsuccessfully. Picked it back up about 12 years ago and have been almost bow only since then. My first bow kill was an odd looking spike that looked to be a couple years old. He had what looked like big spoons for antlers. I had moved my ladder stand over a trail at lunch that day. Shoot him at about twenty yards with a Grim Reaper mechanical. He went about thirty yards.

Not that old then,

a longhorn spike with a Bear whitetail hunter II, I was at least 16. I was old enough to drive but still in high school, so around 1985 or so. I don't even remember what the arrow was but I am sure it was an Easton aluminum. I do how ever clearly remember the broadhead 100 gr Copperhead Rippers! Nasty wicked looking things, black and serrated.

Popular bow back then. Mine was with the Bear Whitetail II in 86 or 87, really can’t remember. I slept in that morning and it was a perfect morning. Showed up to the woods about 9am. Walked in and about 15 minutes later, had a doe run in and was at 20 yards, quartering hard away from me. I was standing on the ground, didn’t even have a stand hung. Ended up being a Texas heart shot and she didn’t go far. I believe I was using Rocky Mountain broadheads on aluminum shafts.

My first one was a doe at about 10 yards out of a tree stand using a Darton SL-50 set at 62# somewhere around 1980 with either a Razorback 4 or 5 broad head. The bow had small round wheels instead of the Cam's we see today. The tree stand was built using 2/4's nailed to the tree for steps and a 2/6 for the seat, bet I was only about 10' off of the ground.

Spike buck in 1976. Taken with a Polar Bear LTD compound bow set at 60#’s. Easton 2018 Aluminum Gamegetter arrows, 4” feather fletch and Savor 3 blade broadhead. Shot him at 15 yds. From a tree stand in a reversed corner of a wheat field. He ran 75yds into the wheat and keeled over.

2004, I was just trying to figure out bowhunting. On a lease in Mason, Blockhouse Ranch. Had my bear whitetail II and a few arrows. It was a sunday morning, still warm, headed over to a tripod that was never hunted so had to go thru some brush. I forgot my flashlight so it was a little sketchy getting in there. Found my spot walked by the huge cactus and WHAM! i almost chit myself. I had stepped on a rattlesnake in the dark! I think i jumped 5ft in the air and walked on top of that cactus. I ran back to the fourwheelr and waited for light, then walked back to the tripod. In all the chaos, i had dropped my 2 arrows with broadheads, which i found and scurried up the ladder to get in position. 10 minutes later a big 10pt comes in with no does, knock an arrow and start to draw back when my arrow falls all the way down to the ground with as much sound as you can make in the deer woods and of course this deer bolts! 5 minutes later he comes back hot on a doe and i managed to make a good shot.

This was by far the hardest deer i have ever worked for since all the lease members left that morning.

They tend to get a lot easier after that.

1990 with the ever popular Bear Whitetail 2 I got on clearance at Kmart for $65. Satelite Mag 125 grain 3 blade head in Llano county on an archery only lease. Shot her at twenty yards using my fingers instead of a release. She ducked, head came up, arrow grazed her back and shoulder but punched right through her neck. She dropped and left a big ole puddle of blood.
Thanx to good leases, friends with MLD places and other opportunities I've killed a lot more since then but my years of killing 12 or 14 a year are over. Don't like cleaning and processing that many anymore. Three or four a year is enough with an exotic or two thrown in with a bunch of pigs.

1996 using a 40 dollar Hoyt I had bought from a shade tree mechanic that received it as some payment. 3 year old 7 point on the trinity river bottoms in liberty county Texas. He was 14 yards coming down a funnel in between to Cyprus breaks.

1991 using a PSE Edge 5000 bow set at 77 pounds with a 32 inch draw length (Had fastflite type wheels instead of cams...had a really smooth draw and let-off even with the heavy poundage)set up by Bushmaster Archery in Willis, TX. I don't know if Paul Reina is still doing bow work but he did a great job on that bow. Easton 2219 Aluminum Arrows with 125 Grain 4 Blade Satellites chronographing around 240 fps.

Leon County, near Marquez, forked 4 point walks between the ladder stand I am standing on and the tree. The deer was about 8 feet away almost straight down when I shot. Deer staggered around like he was drunk, then collasped in the clearing about 15 yards away. Arrow entered just to the right of the spine and the broadhead was sticking just outside the brisket area, hit left lung and wrecked the plumbing at the top of the heart.

I just got my first bow kill Oct 2nd this year in the first 20 minutes of my first sit. Mature doe at 12 yards right through the pump station.

I turned 30 this year and bow hunted a couple years through high school and just picked it back up again last year. I learned a ton last year but recently had baby boy #3 in August so haven't had a ton of time to hunt this year. I'm glad I got one down early!

I posted mine in "I'm Old But..." above/below. My first one was just this month with a Carbon Express xbow.

Shot a spike in ‘95 with an old pse nova at 22 yards. Drilled him right in the pump house!

Kodiak Magnum at 50# with wood shafts I fletched myself. Zwickey broad head and it was around 1979. It was a big spike but might as well have been a P&Y to me at the time.
