my family has a section of land bordering the Pecos river southwest of crane. I will be hunting the property for the first time this weekend. Is this area simply a spot and stalk area or would a pop up blind with lots of patience be a better approach. New Mexico born and bred but lived in the Piney Woods of Texas my adult life.
Thanks for any help.

If you can only make one trip wait until Mule deer season. I saw some nice Mulies last year during quail season. I’ve hunted Crane county for 40 years. The deer hunting keeps getting better and the quail hunting keeps getting worse.

I would hunt the river side, and look for water holes for setting up.

If I were you, I’d spot and stalk this weekend after setting up a feeder for your next visit. In my experience, your mule deer might hit feed (be it corn, sweet feed, alfalfa, etc.) or they might not so don’t count on that but cross your fingers. up
