Base has the look of a Montell. Could be a Montell re-worked into a drill since the shoulders narrow so quickly.

Be sure to go back and look for the tip and look around every time you walk through that area. I found the base of this one, then weeks later found the narrow tip a few feet away from where I found the base. Being a hand tool I can visualize the original owner breaking the drill and chunking both halves at the same time. Yep that's a Montell that has seen it's last days, don't think I've ever seen one worked down that far. It IS unusually 'worked'. If I had to guess....I don't think it was ever used. I don't see any evidence of grinding to smooth it out at the base where it would have been hafted. Also the short flake scars and even one stepped fracture I can see suggests they didn't have a good tool to work with. I can easily see the craftsman getting the long 'drill' section flaked.... and then breaking the piece trying to refine it. It's a nice find though.

I've never heard of anyone ever finding an arrowhead in the sand around here.

Found another today. Same place? Keep looking around...might find some good stuff. Fun anyway. Hard to tell on that one but maybe a repurposed Pedernales (or similar).
