DISCUSSION SUBJECT FOR TODAY:

So suddenly it's almost Christmas and another year flew by. You might have booked a safari for next year and you're wondering...what's the update on the Covid-19 pandemic in South Africa? Mask requirements? Vaccination requirements? Any new reguations for entering South Africa?

The following is an extraction from Gazette 44124, 29 January 2021 (as amended by Gazette 44208, 1 March 2021 and Gazette 45379 of 22 October 2021)

IN SHORT:
1. YES, International flights to and from SA are permitted
2. A Traveller must profide a valid certificate *(document proving the result of the test) with a negative Covid-19 test outcome not more than 72 hours before date of travel. *(The same proses applies before departure) P.S no rapid test applies! only PCR test.
3. A passenger on a plane is required to wear a face mask at all times - unless there is an emergency.
4. Face masks are still mandatory in South Africa. *( Not wearing a mask is now a criminal offence)
5. A vaccination card/ immunity passport or "risk free certificate" means nothing in South Africa. Only negative Covid-19 results.

We can go in a lot of detail regarding this subject but the above rules is what's most important to know and understand for a Hunter travelling to South Africa. Unless the regulations gets ammended, these rules still apply.
Any other questions? Leave a comment below.

Good to see they’re also requiring tests from the vaccinated as well since it’s been well established that the shot doesn’t keep people from getting or spreading the virus. So where all does Africa require you to wear masks?

Most African countries are still mandatory on the wearing of masks, including South Africa. It won't change any time soon.

Like in public places or everywhere/anywhere you go? I assume they're not required at the lodge, right?

With regards to South Africa specifically it is in public, businesses, airports, schools, functions and gatherings by law. But in truth most places are relaxed and I wouldn't say it is heavily enforced. As for a hunting lodge, especially one that is isolated I doubt it is necessary. We don't ask our guests to wear masks in the lodge and certainly not while hunting.

I think you might want to update your update given the new strain brewing in South Africa and impending flight restrictions/cancellations being announced..

Big shock to us all.
Currently it is only non-US citizens that are not permitted to fly into the States from Southern African countries. Foreigners are still able to travel to South Africa however they will need to quarantine up return. Unfortunately regulations and rules seems to be changing by the day. Apart from the new strain, Covid cases in South Africa have been reducing drastically.
Sadly though they didnt seem to matter to most countries who imposed travel restrictions on us and enstilled more fear into travellers.
December is the height of Summer in South Africa and the month where we many tourists from all over the world come to visit. Sadly, this latest ban will be the final nail in the coffin for many many tourism related businesses in South Africa.
Hard times lay ahead.
