After thirty years of building I can say be damn careful to not go with the cheapest. That stuff is a chemical blend that has to be right.

My shop is a perfect example. A company that had done several homes for me knew I had this back yard shop going. They shot me a deal to "train" some new guys. They did an outstanding job---from appearance. It took a few months for the chemical smell to fade away.

There is or was a video on Youtube of a home that one spray foam manufacturer paid to remove everything from the top plate up on a new home. The product was something like "Sealection 500" I forgot. I've actually had a great foam contractor use that product.

Bottom line is.....Know who you are dealing with.

Know what you are getting. Closed cell vs open cell is very different.

And when you mention to a contractor the potential smell they throw out, "Ours is water blown, or water propelled, yadda yadda." It is still two chemicals that have to be right. If they aren't right they are very wrong.

I don't want to sound against spray foam. It is the going thing. My home has it. My utilities are very reasonable. I would just be very careful with the contractor and the product.

I would be curious to know what the cost is the retrofit an attic from pink stuff to an incapsulated attic.....and who would be willing to do it.
Our place is only 4 years old, but they chose to go the old way in the attic.

You'll have to remove all the pink stuff or have someone remove it for you. If not it will mildew/mold once spray foam is in place. In 2014 we were quoted $4K to remove the pink stuff in the attic. We did it ourselves was 50 55 gal trash bags of pink stuff. It was a big job, hot and itchy in the June heat, but I saved $4K.
Used my shop woodworking dust collector with a 50 foot hose to get the big stuff out.
Good Luck,
