I was on the bay working on the house all day Saturday and half a day Sunday. My report is if you have a trip planned to hunt ducks, bring a fishing pole. I saw 8 total ducks in a day and a half. 8 red heads in a group over the middle of west bay.

There have been seasons when I would drive the 6 hours to hunt those 8 ducks, even though I could only shoot one of them a day! Probably heard you weren't going to screen in that porch and decided to get shot by someone else smile

Actually, I think they are moving back north for a little while. Nothing to support it but my hunch. That may be why we had a decent opener on NTX (for some of us!)

No matter how high a duck flies a hammer still breaks a window.

Had an outstanding teal season and a good opening day in the Galveston/Freeport area. But ever since that Sunday after the opener it has slowed down big time on the coast for me. 95% of them are teal... only big ducks so far I've gotten are gadwall and a mottled.

I'm honestly tired of shooting teal. I'm ready for some more gadwall/wigeon/redheads to be dunking into the spread

I would say your hunch is pretty spot on based on what l saw this weekend…l saw redheads on two of our tanks while deer hunting. It’s about 5 years since l have seen one on our place

Two weeks ago mallards, Wigeon, Pintail, green wing teal and snow geese were still in North Dakota in big numbers. Gadwall had mostly left and were in South Dakota in numbers. Specklebellies were coming through in numbers 3 weeks ago. I know some birds are around here in texas. Last Saturday I hunted and there were a few mallards and gadwall around. There were a lot of blue wing teal still hanging around.. The major migration appeared to be late this year. We need some cold air on the plains…
