I bought a Browning new A5 about 4 years ago it is a used gun made I think in 2014. I have taken it pheasant hunting to South Dakota since bought it. It has jammed every day of the hunts. I sent the to Browning last year they replaced the tube spring $80. + shipping to them $100+. When I got it back I tested it with the Fiocchi GPX #5 Just 3 rounds fast as I could. I called Browning today and they want me to send it back to them and I am it’s under warranty. I will not test it more nor will I put more money and time on this gun. Question should I stick with Browning or move on???????

If you feel like you have lost confidence in the gun and can afford it then move on. That's just what I would do.

The early 3 1/2" guns all had this issue, they replaced one of my 3 1/2" guns with a 3", no issues. I sent the other to SRM and had Jeff Hajjar install his complete Sure Cycle system, never had any issues with it afterwards.

Browning O/U's are rock solid...

However, with the exception of the original A5 (long recoil operated) and the gas operated B-80 (courtesy of Beretta)....their SA's have been short-lived dismal failures.

Sorry you had to experience the new "A-5" as it's nothing like the original A5...in any way, shape or form...

My recommendation is to sell off the problematic A5 and find a gun that will do what you need it to do...there are other better options out there!

Not true. The Gold was a success and the Silver is still in production. The Silver is successful. The Winchester SX-3 and it’s derivatives are the same internally as the Gold/Silver and have been very successful. The Maxus has been a success too in my book. I’ve had a 3” model for ten years that has never hiccuped.

My Maxus has served me well in rough handling in the rice paddies. It's a 3.5 but it'll cycle everything but the lightest 2 3/4 which I don't really have a need to shoot anyway. It fits me well and is incredibly soft shooting.

I've never seen a 3.5" SA gun that handles light 2.75" shells 100% reliably and I've been around all the brands and most all their models. I have one gun that is 100% reliable across that range and it's a Cynergy.

Some hiccup more than others, but I think they all do it. After a few decades of bird hunting most everything that flies, I just don't think anyone really needs a 3.5" gun but that "do it all" category is still a strong seller. The 3" guns are do it all as well and they do it much more reliably.

All that is a long way of saying if you're not shooting 3.5" shells on the regular, I'd trade that gun off for a 3" model. You'll be a lot happier.

Browning makes great shotguns but their attempt to revive the A5 was a failure. Sell it and buy a Gold Hunter if you want a great semi auto.

I post on several shotgun forums and this is the only forum I see anything negative on Browning shotguns and the new A5's in particular.

I have owned 2 new A5's in 3", and a new A5 Sweet 16. Personally, I shoot the new A5's better than my other shotguns and they have become my go-to guns. The longer sighting plane of the hump back receiver helps me get my eye in the right place relative to the barrel. The new A5 Sweet sixteen is my favorite, it just weighs 5lbs.-12oz.

I've also owned 3 of the Maxus shotguns in 3-1/2". I still have a camo 3-1/2" Maxus as a goose gun, but I shoot the A5's for most other hunting.

I have not needed any repairs on the new A5's. One of the Maxus guns had a trigger issue that was fixed at no cost when I sent it back to Browning, It sometimes failed to reset and then once locked up solid as if the safety was on. The Maxus guns also had to go back to Browning under warranty for the Dura-Touch repair/replacement.

Browning is usually a pretty solid product. Thier customer service on the other hand is just about worthless. I will never buy another Browning product after the run around they gave me on the very well known Dura Touch issues. Never again!!!!!

Browning Maxus owner. I did buy in 3” as I was weary of perfect cycling of 2.75” shells. Mine has never failed to cycle, even some of the powder puff loads I’ve made for the wife and daughter. I think the suggestion to sell or trade to 3” shotgun is a good suggestion. I personally wanted the A5, but when I shouldered the two shotguns, the maxus just pointed better.

Gold 3 1/2" the absolute worst gun out of the gate, by the late 90s early 2000s they got a handle on it.

The early A5 3 1/2" guns were an issue, the 3" were perfect

Should have took the R&D money for the Gold, Silver, SX-2+ models and updated the tooling and processes for the Auto 5 and SX1 and stopped there

I dont love the A5. I've had good luck shooting a maxus in regards to browning semi's. However, I am a firm believer that their O/Us are some fo the best on the market.

Browning/Winchester customer service definitely isn’t stellar IME and is especially bad when compared to my experience with Weatherby and CZ. But IMO Beretta is considerably worse and it’s only saving grace is that Cole’s is an authorized service repair center for Beretta.

If you are interested in a totally reliable, bullet-proof pre-98 Auto 5, I have two or three.

My ‘65 Auto 5 has supplanted all of my other smoke poles since I took it out of its box, where it had been since 1965, & placed it into service in 2018.
