I'm getting a female fox red lab pup right after Christmas. Plans to be family dog and duck dog. Struggling already to come up with names. We've though of Ember, Reba, and Ruby. Any other suggestions for consideration? I'll attach an old breeding announcement that shows the pedigree.

I don't settle on a name until I have the pup for a week or two. A lot of times they kind of name themselves or a name comes up out of nowhere. I have a service dog that is a Rottweiler named "Red". Long story but she brought the name on herself. I once changed a pups name to Bandit after he repeatedly stole the other pups toys. Stevy opened a box of Stevia sweetener and ate the packets, paper and all. You just never know!

I've always liked the name Dixie for a female. Was thinking more for a hound but it could work for a lab too.

Ruby X2 for a fox red but also like JAB’s suggestion of letting pup name themselves if you do that quick.

Me too, never named a dog prior to having it a bit. One dog I bought as started and she kept her name but it fit her to a T.

It's been 20 years since I had a puppy to name. I always named them after. But my 3 year old is already wanting to name this one. roflmao

Had a rescue that showed up on our back porch one morning while the wife and I were having coffee. We bathed and fed him, kept him for few days wondering what to call him. I was sitting at my desk and a .308 round rolled off the desk onto the floor. He picked it up and brought it to my wife. His name was "Bullitt" from then on. Re-homed him with a neighbors parents and they kept the name.

My gosh they are cute. Tell your kiddo the name is dog or puppy until it names itself wink

Congrats Doc, they are adorable.

Very pretty pup, and I like the name.
When one of my daughters was very young, someone dumped a little yellow puppy close to the house. I brought it in to feed it, and clean it up. My daughter asked if it was a girl, or a boy. When I told her it was a little girl, she said her name is Heifer. We had Heifer for many years.
