With my girlfriend and my mom going out of town together to Houston for the nutcracker market my dad and I had decided to venture out to place in Leon County to hunt for the weekend. Well this past Tuesday night this deer started showing up. I got two pictures of him Tuesday night, two pictures Wednesday night, one picture Thursday evening in shooting hours. We changed plans and decided to hunt this deer this weekend as the Leon county pictures have been rather disappointing. So we sat Saturday morning and saw a couple of does and a few small younger bucks. After the hunt we processed the deer that I had shot the previous Sunday together. Made steaks, stew meat, grind for sausage/burger, and left the back straps whole. We hunted again Saturday night and saw a few more deer but not the right one, still a fun and exciting hunt for us. My dad stayed the night with me Saturday and it brought back a lot of fond memories to me of our old deer lease in the hill country. It was like we were back at deer camp again with a lot nicer amenities. This morning rolled around and we got to the blind a little late and a big bodied deer was already at the feeder. We made some noise getting in the blind and getting situated and the deer eased up a hill into some mesquite trees and brush where he couldn’t be seen. The feeder went off at 6:35 and roughly 5 minutes later the deer eased down the hill and onto our oat patch. It was the deer we were after. He eased his way to the feeder and after some brief discussion my dad decided to shoot him. At around 6:45 he knocked him down with his 240 weatherby dead as a door nail. He was one of only a couple of deer that I have ever seen grow once you got up close to him. I taped him into a shoulder mount done by the people I work for at a local custom butcher shop. I even got to give him a tore of the kill floor, cut room, dry room, and smokehouse that he seemed to really enjoy (his grandparents ran a custom butcher shop the his mom and dad took over and he got to grow up working in it as a young child). All in all a great weekend with lots of memories mad and a heck of a deer taken by a great man and father who greatly deserved it. Not sure on the score but he measured 17 and 1/2 wide inside spread. Thanks for reading y’all, happy hunting. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2021/11/full-66834-322450-857ed01b_a884_400b_a74e_e0a0e1d2c1cd.jpeg) ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2021/11/full-66834-322451-bf3e812b_9669_4041_aaca_eb0efd495fe1.jpeg) ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2021/11/full-66834-322452-924cc40d_795f_4a49_b966_bbbe6e74be17.jpeg)

Thanks for the great story and pics! x2
High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!
