This was my 6yo son's first time behind a centerfire rifle. He's only shot his air rifles and 22lr until now. I wanted to get him prepared to shoot his first deer on the 20th since my lease has a couple extra muley doe tags. I hung a target at 100 yards and set up a WC 300 Ham'r for him. After the first shot, I could hardly believe my eyes when I looked through the spotting scope. He center-punched the 1" bullseye. If he can keep his nerves under control, there will be a dead deer post coming up soon.

Good first shot, hope your plan comes together. We will be waiting with baited breath for some pictures.

Don't talk up the deer shooting to keep the nerves in check.
In the blind tell him to shoot it like the target.
To kill time in the blind with my boys I'd ask them to draw a picture of a deer and have them mark where they'd put the shot. Worked every time.
