We bought some property back in July and weren’t really sure what we were going to do with it at the time. We’ve grown to really like the community and we really like the schools. It’s not far from our farm and we can travel back and forth to check the cattle, etc.

Follow along as we build a barndo/shop first, and hopefully break ground on the Farmhouse in January.

I bought laser equipment for my dozer and skidsteer, and let me tell you - for an amateur equipment operator, I’d put this pad site we built up against any veterans.

Met with power coop today and will have power in about a month, the well is not far off.

We set forms in the morning for concrete. I’ll go back and set drain/sewer lines as soon as they form and hopefully pour early next week.

I drew up the barn in Sketchup - it’s been a fun learning curve. Just a little under half will be a two story apartment and the other half will be my shop.

[Linked Image]Concrete guys came early Friday to set forms. Worked on rough-in plumbing today.

They should be back in the AM to re-dig interior beams and piers, and set rebar. Hoping to pour early Friday - I’ll keep you guys posted!

First time roughing in a true living space - the Topcon laser really helped getting the ditches on grade.

May be hard to see. Concrete guys laid plastic and set all rebar today.

Pretty excited for Friday! Hoping we can get it together as quick as I think we can.

The dozer looks tiny in the pics.

do you have a rough idea on the price/sq.ft. of the build? not the land just the construction from hauling in the dirt to finish? good luck!

Concrete is poured and curing!!

Brought most of the red iron over yesterday. I'll give it a few days to cure before we start building the trusses.

Been a few days - Happy late Thanksgiving everyone!

Working the real job does not allow for much time on the barndo - but doing what I can, when I can.

Picked up all the red iron and got the trusses built. I cut a little jig out of a 2x4 to make laying out the pitches super quick and efficient.

I am hoping to cut all posts tomorrow and maybe? stand metal first thing Sunday. (Pretty ambitious because I don't have any help - and the side walls are 16', with a 4/12 pitch, the peak is 21' lol).

Ready to the get metal up so I can sheet this thing.

Made a little progress today.

Hope to have the other two trusses on tomorrow and hopefully get the rest of the purlins put on.

All roof purlins are in. Porch beams are set - I’ll get those purlins knocked out in the morning.

First second story beam is in. Will put three others tomorrow and hopefully get all the floor purlins put in. 16 o.c. 8” purlins for the second story living area.

One thing about it - this thing is a beast.

Got a handful of the second floor purlins up! Pumped about that view every day from now on.

Honestly - way more than it needs to be. This thing is stout stout in terms of material. I went overkill on the concrete and the frame by a huge factor. I have not even figured up cost/ft, but it will be up there.
