I don't know much about hunting rifle value. What do you guys think? 1979 model according to google (serial G14149XX). Metal is great, but wood varnish finish is flaking off in some areas. Figured a hunter buying it at $450 may not care but it's not a collectors piece without a stock strip/refinish. Is that price out of line?

He said it's had less than 100 rounds shot through it - his dad bought it and hunted a bit with it and he inherited it and hasn't done much with it. It's always been cleaned and oiled on the outside and cleaned in the bore.

I think your price is too low.

I love m70 but Im not expert. It wouldnt be considered a "collectors piece" regardless of condition, would it?

The M70 has a decent following. I just mean nobody is going to be buying this thing to scratch an itch they've always had for a mint condition XTR

The finish flaking is a cause for concern for me, makes me wonder if it spent some time butt down in the snow or water. I'd want to examine the stock pretty closely to see if there were any cracks in the wood forming, especially in a caliber like .300 Win Mag. It definitely has some pros and cons, and hard to pin down a good price anyway in these times.

I've seen a lot of old rifles with that high gloss coat flaking, not a concern for me. I think you can get more than $450. Of course, bore condition could change that, but I doubt it's an issue.

The flaking is around all edges not in one area. It's just the age of the finish.
